Airdate: The Omid Djalili Show

UK-Iranian comic Omid Djalili promises zany stuff like Kebab the Musical and The Flamboyant Scottish Musical Director.

UK comedian Omid Djalili hits ABC screens next week. Djalili was born in London to an Iranian Bahá’í father and an English mother, and has since become a hit at the Edinburgh Fringe, appeared alongside Whoopi Goldberg in her short-lived sitcom plus stints in The Mummy and Gladiator.

In his own BBC he combines sketch and stand-up material, putting the “fat into fatwa, the fun into fundamentalism and the ham into Hamas.”

The first episode features Kebab the Musical and The Flamboyant Scottish Musical Director who directs videos for ‘unsuitable people’ like Osama Bin Laden.

The Omid Djalili Show premieres 8:35pm Wednesday January 7 on ABC1 with a repeat on ABC2 Thursday nights.

Press Release:
One of Britain’s best-loved and challenging stand-up comedians, Omid Djalili belly dances into his own comedy sketch show, combining edgy cultural send-ups with memorable characters.

The Omid Djalili Show takes a swipe at modern-day life in a multicultural society. It reflects and builds on Omid’s successful stand-up persona; part political, part social commentary and part plain silly.

The only Iranian comic to feature in his own show, the chunky, balding London-born Omid describes himself as the man who put the fat into fatwa, the fun into fundamentalism and the ham into Hamas.

In episode one, his show’s running sketch includes Kebab the Musical which explores family tensions between first and second generation immigrants and The Flamboyant Scottish Musical Director, who finds himself directing videos for unsuitable people like Osama Bin Laden.
