Gallery: Skins cast

Meet the new kids on the Bristol block, set to premiere in Skins in the UK in January.

This is Effy (Kaya Scodelario), Tony’ younger sister from Skins, and the only remaining lead character in the third series of the UK adolescent drama set to screen in the UK in January.

As we know, co-creator Jamie Brittain has ditched the original cast (sob!) in favour of new kids in Bristol. He plans to use these actors for another two years, replacing them once more if the show proceeds.

The characters include:
Pandora (Lisa Blackwell),Effy’s naive best friend.
Cook (Jack O’Connell) is the cocksure leader of the guy.
Freddie (Luke Pasqualino), a skateboarding pretty boy.
JJ (Ollie Barbieri), the clever one – and master magician.
Naomi (Lily Loveless) is a feisty gal – passionate, principled and often locking horns with others in the group.

Twins Katie: (Megan Prescott) and Emily (Kathryn Prescott). The first is a social beast, with an older footballer boyfriend and scant regard for others, while the other lives in her sister’s shadow, crippled by shyness.

“They’re a really interesting bunch, actually,” said Brittain, “I think once people see them, they will warm to them quite quickly because they’re all quite interesting. Unlike the characters in the first two series they’re very much people in development. There’s no-one like Tony, who could spout clever non-sequiturs and all that stuff.

“To an extent – and this is just to an extent – the first time round the characters were archetypal,” he said. “I think that was required to give the audience a way to get into the show, but now we’re much better writers and better at creating characters, so the characters this time are much more complex, real and vivid. That isn’t to do down the characters from the first time round – they’re brilliant – but this time we’re playing a slightly different game. It’s a bit more in-depth.”

Brittain has all but ruled out any return appearances of former castmates, noting they are all busy with new projects. He says he hopes audiences will warm to the new cast members as much as the first and second seasons.

“I am nervous. But I’m also fairly confident because I think this series is really good. Just the quality of the acting, writing and directing is better than ever before. We’ve shown it to a few people and everyone who’s seen the first episode has seemed to enjoy it so far.”

SBS is currently repeating a season one of the show which would suggest it might be another three months before we see season 3 in Australia…

  1. RE: Luke

You should be able to get it Dymocks and JB-Hi Fi
I went to JB-hi fi and they kept running out of stock. I went to Dymocks and they had a boxset of the 2 seasons. I bout it for $50. Then i went to JB hi fi a week later and they had skins. but they were seperate (didnt come in a box set). It was $35 each.

So you’re better off getting the boxset, preferable at Dymocks.

  2. I too am glad they changed the cast around, even though I will miss the others, but… they all look 13/14 years old in those photos. Is the cast younger? Not that its a bad thing, just curious.

  3. Tepee, season 2 finished airing on SBS a few months ago. I’d be very surprised if they don’t repeat S2 immediately after the current S1 repeats finish, and then have the new S3 run straight after S2 finishes. Makes the most sense.

I’m happy with the change, especially with Effy staying on.

  4. Skins is one of the best dramas of recent times and I’m confident the brilliant writers know what they’re doing for Season 3 – hurry up SBS, a cool show like this needs to be fast tracked or a big chunk of your audience will watch it when the Brits do ….

  5. Excuse my daftness, but could anyone answer this question…

Has season 2 of Skins already aired? If so is there any chance that SBS will repeat it, since it’s has started to repeat the series from the very beginning, Mondays at 10:30pm. Surely that would be SBS’s idea to screen the entire series so that people who haven’t seen the show can catch up before they air the new season 3.

  6. I love skins! I was flicking through the channels (i very rarely was SBS) and i stopped when i saw this show. I found this show very very interesting… little did i know i stayed and watched the whole episode. I loved it from the second i saw it. And then i couldn’t wait for the next episode…

I will definitelly miss the old cast. The characters were the best; Michelle, Syd, Maxxie, Anwar, Chris, Jal and Tony… and who could forget the teacher who fell in love with Chris – Angie!!! – she rocked. I really started liking Effie, so i’m glad shes still around.

ahh… new season, new characters, new cast… Good luck to them and i will definitelly tune in, but i will always love the old cast just that little bit more.

    massive skins fan
    -seriously

  7. Kaya Scodelario was startlingly good in the few scenes she got in seasons 1 and 2, and I’m pleased she’s the one who continues on. It’ll be interesting to see how they work around the fact that her character knows all these people who we’ll not be seeing on screen any more, though..!

However, I actually think they’ve done a good thing by doing a complete change-out of the cast. Think about it. Season 1 was so good because we got to get to know a bunch of new characters and then see what their interactions, triumphs and screw-ups would be. By season 2 they were old friends, and it didn’t quite have the same edge to it (with the exception of a couple of stunning episodes, particularly the one with Tony’s college “trip” :). As long as they write season 3 right, it could be brilliant. They’ve already shown that when it comes to casting they know what they’re doing. I’m a bit concerned that Kaya is the only one in the photos above that looks a bit edgy – but then, perhaps that’s because I’ve seen her character already, and not the others’.

And no, I won’t be waiting for SBS. This show’s too good for the Erectile Dysfunction and Shannon’s treatment. I’ll be getting this one in 720p HD like last season, ta very much 🙂
