Half a Betty

Sorry Betty, you're only going to screen once a week now, mostly because of Nine's factual winner.

Seven is removing Ugly Betty from Tuesdays now to play only on Thursdays as of next week, December 18.

The show only got 733,000 on Tuesday, beaten by Sudden Impact on 1.04m.

Instead Seven has decided to go head to head with factual series, Wild Vets and Coastwatch from Tuesday December 16.

That makes viewing tough for anyone wanting diversity of choice. Still Seven has knocked the show around this year, they shouldn’t be surprised by the low turn out.

Betty also won’t screen on Christmas Day, but returns January 1st.

  1. I agree Steven, but i hope that the American industry doesn’t falter. NBC looks like going that way, but i hope they get back on their feet. However i don’t believe that a paid download service will work, as tv has traditionally been free, except for DVDs. Adverts in downloads would be the best option i believe. Once people get used to tv shows on demand, they won’t look back. That’s why our networks should be treating viewers with respect so they don’t leave permanently, as they won’t come back.

  2. My wife only wanted the show to come back as she just wants an Australian release dvd of it series 2. The contract Seven has obviously means they have to play the show first before it can come out on dvd. But with so few new shows actually being played to completion on Australian TV, free to air or otherwise, who can be blamed for sourcing your entrainment outside Australia? As whats available in America, reasonably priced legal video downloads would be ideal. With consumers now shifting to online delivery or just dvd in a major way, I believe the entertainment industry is built on outdated premises. Once being given the choice to watch what we want, whenever we want, its hard to go back to whatever crumbs of entertainment the Australian TV channels have decided its economically viable to show at that time.

  3. I was liking Ugly Betty twice a week (even if I had to torrent an ep because I forgot it was on).
At this rate, I’ll be happy if I even get to see to the end of a series this NRP.

  4. What the factual are they thinking??? geez..if they gave a factual about the audience…who on the coast are at the beach…and in country…are somewhere else…they’d realise no one wants TV in summer… Tall poopy means everyone pick on 7…wasn’t so long ago it was 9…and poor old TEN…still get picked on and they are comeing third

  5. This is insane. Seriously the networks have gone mad. Its summer it doesnt count and there is more movement in the summer schedule over this past couple of weeks than the networks in the last month of the ratings period lol. Its ridiculous. Betty though doesnt have enough season 2 eps to have it on twice a week. I just wish all networks would just let the shows be over summer. Seven shouldnt have moved dsm. A repeat of ghost whisperer didnt do much better.

I guess now i will have to find something else to do on tuesday 7:30pm

  6. Why do they care how many people are watching? It’s called non-ratings period for a reason!

I love Ugly Betty. I’ve loved every episode shown over the past couple of weeks. It’s such a great show. I was enjoying seeing it twice a week but knew it wouldn’t last. If they take it off completely though, I’m going to go mad!

  7. I agree with Ryan, they should’ve kept it on Wednesdays at 7.30 in the first place! It was doing fine with 1 million viewers each week, but then they stupidly moved it to 9.30 before it was yanked.
Ch7 have treated the show like crap (it shows in viewer numbers now) and it’s a shame because it’s actually a really good show! I’m seriously getting sick of how they’re treating it, and now just once a week?? Argh.

  8. Shame about this, but David you are right in saying that 7 shouldn’t have neglected its audience – they only have themselves to blame. I’m already watching Season 3 and enjoying it immensely but I know quite a few people who were enjoying double eps of Season 2, hoping to catch up.
Instead now we are stuck with more shows about animals and boating..yawn..

  9. Seven should never should have taken it off Sundays in the first place. They were doing great with the Beautiful Sunday theme last year, and once they brought it back this year mid-week that killed it. Its a real shame because this season is really fun.

  10. May also have something to do with that we’re now approaching the end of Season 2 of Ugly Betty, and they want to be able to spread the episodes over summer – whilst Eli Stone has a heap of episodes they can air?

  11. Had Seven continued to air Ugly Betty twice a week, the season finale (episode 18 in season 2) would have finished on Christmas Day. Then Seven would have to find fill-in programs for the 7.30pm timeslot on three Thursday nights in January before the Australian Open tennis. Now with UB aired once per week, it will finish on Thursday January 15.

  12. SEVEN should have left this on Wednesdays where is was attracted around the million mark, if I recall the last episode, against the 3rd State of Origin attracted a little over a million – which in my eyes warrants it to stay in the schedule, considering it was slowly building. SEVEN have destroyed what could have been a valuable stable asset. Now its been killed and all I can say is thankyou for bit torrent. Whats the bet by the end of January the show is yanked off air and we don’t see it till December 2009.

  13. If Wild Vets and Coastwatch were any good they would have shown then in the rating period, not that all shows this time of year are bad, it’s just never a good sign.

With the spotty schedule isn’t no wonder Betty has struggled in the ratings.

  14. “Only” 733,000 in “non ratings period”.

    They should be grateful.

But no, another channel whipped out a bigger sausage. Egos need to be fed.

    🙂
