Lachlan’s deal for Southern Star

Lachlan Murdoch is interested in Southern Star, production company behind Deal or No Deal, Rush and Out of the Blue.

The Weekend Australian says Lachlan Murdoch is interested in production Southern Star.

It is understood the board will examine tenders made by a number of bidders, including a consortium led by Mr Murdoch’s private company, Illyria, at a meeting next week.

Fairfax paid $150 million for Southern Star, which produces Deal or no Deal, Rush and Out of the Blue, in November last year as part of the break-up of the former Southern Cross Broadcasting.

Analysts say the value of the business has fallen significantly since because of the global credit crunch, with leading analysts now valuing it below $100 million.

Others said to be pitching for Southern Star in competition with Mr Murdoch include the BBC and international production houses such as Big Brother creator Endemol and FremantleMedia.
