Oscars for Movie Extra too

Movie Extra will also screen the 2009 Oscars, but is it 30 minutes behind Nine?

Following on from the announcement yesterday that the Nine Network will screen the 2009 Academy Awards live to air, the Movie Extra channel will also screen the event.

The difference is while Nine says its ceremony will air at 12 noon, Movie Extra says its is from 12:30pm. Both claim to be live to air.

Movie Extra also re-screens the full event that same night at 12am plus a 90 minute special highlights program on Wednesday 25th February at 4pm.

For the first time ever in the history of the Academy Awards Australian viewers will have the chance to watch all the glamour of the biggest night in Hollywood as it happens – Movie EXTRA is delighted to present the live broadcast of the 81st Academy Awards® from the Kodak Theatre.

Beginning on Movie EXTRA at 10am on Monday 23rd February 2009(AEST) watch the red carpet arrivals broadcast live from Hollywood Boulevard. Check out the daring fashion triumphs and faux pas, hear what some of the most accomplished men and women of the movie industry have to say about this year’s hopefuls and watch some exclusive behind-the-scenes coverage before the official ceremony begins.

At 12.30pm tune-in to find out who wins the most sought after and respected motion picture awards. From Best Costume Design to Best Film, Movie EXTRA will be the first to bring the news straight to your lounge room!

Night owls can catch the whole broadcast that same night at 12am on Tuesday 24th February. If that’s not enough and you want to relive the magic there will be a 90 minute special highlights program on Wednesday 25th February at 4pm.

To help us get into the spirit of celebrating the extraordinary power of the silver screen, join us all through February at 8.30pm on Movie GREATS when we’ll be showing a classic Oscar winning movie every night. March 1 will be Movie ONE’s premiere of last years Oscar winning film, the stunning There Will Be Blood.

  1. Pre-show starts at 8pm, traditionally the show starts at 8.30pm – that means that Nine will be airing the red carpet at 12pm (8pm US) while Movie Extra will cut straight to the telecast at 12.30 (which is 8.30pm).

    So both will be live.
