Thank God You’re Here switches to Seven

Channel Seven has swooped once more, this time on TEN's hit comedy, Thank God You're Here, poised to return in 2009.

Thank God You’re Here is switching from Network TEN to Channel Seven.

It will return in 2009 with Shane Bourne as host and Tom Gleisner as judge.

The hit improvisation show has previously enjoyed three seasons on TEN.

The shift from networks, which follows Seven’s acquisition of Kath & Kim from the ABC, is a major coup for Seven and a huge blow to the TEN Network. It was sorely missed as part of TEN’s Sunday line-up.

“Having taken a year off it felt right to try some new things with the show,” said Tom Gleisner, “including a different home. Moving will give us the opportunity to expose Thank God You’re Here to a whole new audience, while also allowing Shane to continue using his City Homicide parking space.”

Seven CEO David Leckie said, “We see this as being the first of many shows in a long term relationship with Working Dog. They are the best in the business at what they do and that’s why they’ll fit in just perfectly at Seven.”

TV Tonight hears March is a potential starting date…

Press Release:
The sensational comedy series Thank God You’re Here is poised to join Australian TV’s best prime time line-up on Channel Seven.

Thank God You’re Here, an award-winning creation from Working Dog Productions, will join Channel Seven’s 2009 schedule for its fourth season of unscripted mayhem.

Shane Bourne will remain the show’s host in addition to his role on the hit Channel Seven police drama City Homicide.

Judge and co-creator Tom Gleisner:

“Having taken a year off it felt right to try some new things with the show – including a different home. Moving will give us the opportunity to expose Thank God You’re Here to a whole new audience, while also allowing Shane to continue using his City Homicide parking space.”

Thank God You’re Here is a huge hit locally and overseas.

Channel Seven chief executive David Leckie is ecstatic to add another Aussie hit to the network’s stable:

“I have wanted to work with the Working Dog team for years and I’m happy that we waited long enough for it to be for the right show – Thank God You’re Here is a fabulous show and it will be even more fabulous on Seven.

“We see this as being the first of many shows in a long term relationship with Working Dog. They are the best in the business at what they do and that’s why they’ll fit in just perfectly at Seven.”

  1. Quote: “hopefully it fails just like when shows move onto other channels. it happened with kath & kim.”
Um, in what way did Kath and Kim fail on Seven? Sure, you could argue that the episodes weren’t as good, but I’m pretty sure they rated through the roof.

I wonder if this had anything to do with Shane Bourne being on City Homicide? Maybe they had to switch networks to keep him?

  2. WHat the hell is the difference???? Its gonna be the same show (albeit on an extremely better channel) Working dog will still have the same comedians, they aint gonna use people who arent funny on it, thats not what the show is about. I say Sucked in ten, should of made the move and got a 4th season confirmed coz u needed this, u needed it badly. Snooze u lose ey

lol people saying ‘im not gonna watch seven now, they wreck all the shows like kath and kim’ what r u talking about? Kath and kim got over 2 mil and could finally be well exposed, and even spawn an international series.

This is great news i reckon. Very smart move by working dog going to seven. i’m sure they’ll get better exposure and the show will actually become a well publisised hit that it should be, ten treated it like crap yet reeked the rating rewards. Its not betraying your friends, working dog wants money so they go to the place where they’ll get it. Simple as that and what a grab seven got, this’ll be great for their younger demos. This networks just unstoppable,

i think seven should steal the ‘still the one’ slogan soon, that’ll tick some of you off

david, if you could, can you tell us what went on in order for this to happen? was it seven, working dog or tens doing?

  3. I checked date first (not April 1). so first impression is stunned.
Huge hole in Ten’s programme but thing that hit me most was “how will Seven promote show” and what timeslot and what shows will be bookended to it.
Now upto Seven to prove it can do right thing..and for Ten to go pinch stuff from Seven or Nine.

  4. this is a similar reaction to the K&K movement, i remember that had huge negative feedback, but people obviously forgot about that as the season turned out to be what will become one of the top shows of the decade.

you guys cannot be serious, not watching a show just because it is on 7, especially as it looks like this was a working dog decision, not 7’s.

  5. Watch it, don’t watch it – just get over it! Feel sorry for channel 10? Do they feel sorry for you when they take off your favourite shows? People, please calm down it’s just not that big of a deal.

  6. LOL. Wholly shit, the news doesn’t get much better for 7 in 09. I can’t believe all the 9 and ten fan boys saying they wont watch the show simply because it’s on 7 now. It’s still the same show, and I guarantee it will go back to the massive ratings it was previously getting. You cant blame Working Dog for switching to 7, with the instability of ten, and the lack of morale at 9…

  7. ‘Are the comedians that seem to hover around Ten — Cal Wilson, Arj Barker, Stephen K. Amos, etc. — signed to Ten, or can they move?’

Considering Cal Wilson was on DWTS on 7, I would assume they can move…

  8. So their “talent” will consist of Home & Away cast members? Maybe some Packed To The Rafters actors?

Oh and don’t forget Fifi Box..

It seemed like since Glenn Robbins show “Out Of The Question” is on 7 with all their friends that TGYH (working dog) just followed it.

  9. does anyone remember a few years back on dancing with the stars when daryl approached Tom Gleisner in the audience and daryl started with “so you must be impressed with the huge sucess of the show” and then had a full conversation that was just a promotion for the show. . . interesting

could 7 have had their eyes on this for a while ^that^ must have been 2-3 years ago

i’m not to fussed about where it is, i don’t think 7 will “ruin it” as some people have said. so was this working dogs pushing or ch7’s pulling?

i do feel v v sorry for ch10 tho this is not what they needed

  10. OMG, channel 7 should go die… and that CIO david leckie or whatever his name is… is a complete w***ker. Hes so rude!

And also, this was on the TEN’s best rating shows. TEN has hardly any shows that rate well and this was one of them… why the hell did seven have to take it. I hated TGYH, but i was happy cuz ten was getting ratings with it.

  11. another reason why network seven is a piece of crap station!! there is no way in the world i would ever watch tgyh on 7!!!
i feel sorry for ten, they would have paid anything for new eps.
    go and die network seven!!!!

  12. also if is does end up starting in March i guess that means its not on a sunday as Sunday night, Aus got talent, Desperate and greys will not leave a gap in their sunday lineup until talent ends in about april.

  13. first of all, working dog makes the show not ch7 or 10 so the show itself will probably not be impacted based on the network.i just want to know if this decision was orchestrated by working dog or ch7

and a network change has proven to be one of the best formulas for viewer increase in a show. K&K, ladette to lady, OC they all recorded more sucessful ratings on a new network.

with the state that ch10 is in at the moment even their biggest rating shows have crumpled. just look at house, what is to say that TGYH would not have seen the same fate had it stayed.

  14. Ch7 make us all cringe jed 🙂

Over at other sites many are saying they won’t watch now that it’s on channel tacky. Also agree with many here..probably won’t watch it on 7 and i have a feeling it won’t last too much longer.

More proof that 7 have run out of ideas.

  15. How much crap can people dish out here. How can you talk about loyalty? This is a commercial TV we are talking about not a community channel. Ch 10 is focused to much on creating a new HD channel (i.e. for Sport) that they probably assigned lot’s of resources for that (financial and otherwise). Obviously the guys asked for a bit new money and Ch 10 refused hence the show is moving Ch 7. So what?

  16. Some of you guys are hilarious “omg i love the show but im not watching it on seven”.. .ahahahaha

We’re not going to see and endless parade of Seven’s “personalities” (i use the term loosely) on Thank God – Working Dog are very protective of their shows and I highly doubt it will change. That said – we’re obviously going to be seeing no Ten personalities on there, so hopefully the producers (again, that’s Working Dog, not Seven) will stick to comedians.
