Singer, actress and screen vamp Eartha Kitt has died, aged 81.
The US performer died of cancer on Thursday, the same day referenced in one of her biggest hits, “Santa Baby.”
In adition to her cabaret act, Kitt was best known for her performances at ‘Catwoman’ in the 1960s series, Batman. As a successor to Julie Newmar’s Catwoman, Kitt only ever appeared in three episodes. She was also nominated for an Emmy for I Spy and won two Daytime Emmys for The Emporer’s New School.
She also appeared in Miami Vice, Police Woman and Ben Casey.
Kitt launched her career as a dancer in Paris with the famed Katherine Dunham Dance Troupe. Before she had hit the age of 20, she had already toured the world with the company as a dancer and vocalist.

That’s a real shame. I must admit that the Emperor’s New Groove was a guilty pleasure of mine, and she made the character of Yzma in some of her later endeavours.
One of those with a really distinctive voice, will be missed.
Also very sad is that she died 23 days before her 82nd birthday.
