2009 GLAAD Media Awards: Nominees

Brothers and Sisters, The L Word, Torchwood and True Blood are nominated by the Gay & Lesbian Alliance in the US for Best Drama.

brothers-sisters-weddingAmerica’s Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation have announced their nominees for 2009 GLAAD Media Awards (you just knew there were more awards shows to come right?).

Now in its 20th year, GLAAD’s Awards have become an influential comment on the advance of gay visibility in “straight media” and gives particular attention to characters and storylines in television.

This year it nominates Brothers and Sisters, The L Word, True Blood, Torchwood and South of Nowhere as its drama picks.

For comedy it has settled on Desperate Housewives, Ugly Betty, Greek, Reaper and Skins -some unusual definitions of comedy to say the least.

Kathy Griffin, who has previously hosted one of the awards events, and America’s Next Top Model are also nominated. Ellen deGeneres is a shoo-in for her episode “Ellen & Portia’s Wedding Day,” on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

Last year Arena had to cancel plans to screen the event in Australia for the first time ever, after problems with music rights got in the way. Hopefully they can sort this problem for 2009 and we’ll eventually get to see it.
