Airdate: Cranford

ABC will air the award winning BBC drama starring Judi Dench, Imelda Staunton, Julie Sawalha and Phillip Glenister.

ABC will air the BBC series Cranford in February. Last week it was in contention for three Golden Globes and already has Emmy and BAFTA wins under its belt.

The period drama is adapted from three novellas by Elizabeth Gaskell published between 1849 and 1858. It follows the small absurdities and major tragedies in the lives of the people of Cranford during one extraordinary year.

Judi Dench leads a commanding ensemble cast including Philip Glenister (Life on Mars, Ashes to Ashes), Michael Gambon (Gosford Park, Harry Potter, Wives and Daughters), Imelda Staunton (Vera Drake, Canterbury Tales) Julia Sawalha (Absolutely Fabulous), Francesca Annis (Jane Eyre, Revolver, Wives and Daughters) and Eileen Atkins (Scenes of a Sexual Nature, Gosford Park and The Dresser) who won a BAFTA and Emmy for her role as Miss Deborah Jenkyns.

Cranford begins 8:30pm Sunday February 8th.

It has previously screened in Australia on subscription television.

  1. I loved Cranford – an excellent production. I’m humming the theme music, but I can’t place it. Can somebody tell me, please?

  2. The show originally aired on UKTV last year… I disconnected my Foxtel halfway through the series so am very happy to hear ABC has picked it up. It’s about time we got to see the good british shows on the free channels.

  3. Will the ABC be broadcasting it in HD (as it was on Foxtel)?

Seems strange that there are quite a few shows on the ABC which are available in HD, yet are never shown in HD. Hustle is another.

@Ianblair23: It was on BBC HD.
