Corey Worthington and Leila McKinnon provided a defining moment of 2008. Here are 50 memories of the television year.

Leila McKinnon and Corey Worthington’s on air interview was one of the defining moments of the 2008 television year.

As the A Current Affair summer host berated the party-boy (along with all the other media) she tried to coax him into removing his infamous, trademark sunglasses. But the teenager was not about to succumb to the demands of corporate media -at least not without a fee involved.

Leila McKinnon: Take off your glasses and apologise to us.
Corey Worthington: I’ll say sorry but I’m not taking off my glasses…
Leila McKinnon: Why not?
Corey Worthington: Cause they’re famous…
Leila McKinnon: Because your glasses are famous?
Corey Worthington: Yeah
Leila McKinnon: Well we’ve got to go but I suggest you go away and take a good long hard look at yourself…
Corey Worthington: I have, everyone has, they love it.

Here in no particular order are 49 other select memories of the moments that made up the 2008 television year. From show farewells to short lived ideas, from moments of glory to scandals…. thanks 2008…..Good morning, and in case I don’t see ya, good afternoon, good evening, and good night!

  1. i agree with ali, corey is a disgrace, completely unworthy of the airtime, 9 should be ashamed. but i did think he made good work of leila, she thought she was sooo superior, quite entertaining really.

this was possibly one of the worst, most unprofessional interviews i have ever seen. i don’t know how much input 9 had in what came out of leilas mouth. but i really don’t think she should be part of ACA anymore.

@ irishbabe, do you work for 9 by any chance, i don’t know why or how else anyone could say that. any mention of corey’s name is unneeded publicity. not to mention what tabloid magazine material is doing on a “current affairs show”.

and with all of leilas attacks, cut-offs, antagonism, and forcing what the people wanted to hear. i would say that this was one of the most unbalanced interviews i have ever seen, far from “allowing Corey to tell his side of the story”.

and as for: “which isn’t done very much these days” i would also have to agree. whether it is in the report or said by the tv host after the report. i find that other sides of the story are always mentioned. they would be slammed if they weren’t.

but definitely a highlight of the tv calendar, david. it will be remembered, but not in a good way.

  3. JohnP Nine weren’t giving Corey publicity, they were merely reporting on the facts of the story and allowing Corey to tell his side of the story, which isn’t done very much these days! – So good on you Channel Nine for allowing Corey’s side of the story to be told!

  4. Leila McKinnon: Take off your glasses and apologise to us.
Leila McKinnon: ….go away and take a good long hard look at yourself…

Is “Leila McKinnon” trying to be Corey’s mum with that insightful interview? 😉 Maybe channel Nine could have taken a good look at itself too and not given Corey any publicity in the first place. Win-win for Nine and Corey with cheap low-quality journalism as usual. Leila’s husband David Gyngell must be happy.
