It’s bad news for fans of Gossip Girl on Nine.
The show has been pulled from the schedule effective immediately.
From tomorrow Nine will show double episodes of ER.
Gossip Girl’s first season was screening on Nine after being on-sold and screened on Nine. But many have argued that the 10:30pm timeslot was too late for the target audience, particularly in early December before school holidays had begun.
For the past two weeks the show has been off air due to Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. Until yesterday it had been planned to return tonight.
The last time it aired the show attracted 441,000 viewers -not too bad a figure for the summer timeslot.
ER screens two episodes “From here to Paternity” and “Photographs And Memories” from 9:30pm.
No word on whether Gossip Girl is returning yet.

Honestly WTF is channel nine doing?
Do the bunch of idiots running the joint even understand the huge phenomen Gossip Girl has become? Not just in America but world wide. This show, given a decent timeslot, and some effing good promotion (like foxtel’s kick ass adverts) could be killing the ratings. I mean i’m a nineteen year old student and even i can see that! Obviously they don’t care about getting ratings or airing good television. I mean two and half men… kill me. Don’t even get me started on the other rubbish they have on this channel.
Are these people on crack, seriously?
is this an indication that ER will be in the 10:30 spot into ratings?
Is this programming change Number 2 for Nine already ?

The last episode of gossip girl did well for it’s time slot i really think it would have been better if they had just given it more time, I’ve really had enough of channel nine and also ten they just seem to be all over the place pulling and adding shows when they like..how do they expect to get any real viewers. From now on I’m sticking to pay TV at least i can trust my shows wont be moved and canceled every week.
I haven’t see it yet because I’ve had some problems. I missed the first episode so I’ve been trying to obtain it and I taped two other episodes and now it’s gone so I don’t know what I’m going to do.
does anyone else think that watchign the morning show this week is cringe-worthy? I’m a today ‘fan’ (by default), but love weekend sunrise. A today show at the weekend using cameron and mckinnon is like trying to make oil and water mix. I feel embarrassed for them when i look at them.
Since Fox8 is airing the 2nd season I very much doubt another FTA will pick it up more than a season behind, only hope is ch9 2nd SD or HD channels IMO, or next summer for more form season 1 when it will be 2 years old…
I have no idea what is wrong with that channel… i am 16 years old and obviously enjoy watching Gossip Girl… but theres no way I can watch it if it starts at 10:30pm. at least a 9.30 start would be ok. channel 9 sucks!!! Even ten is better than you.
I really hope now that Ch 10 gives GG a lifeline & screens it properly including better tv promos .
This is the reason why both Online Download & Amazon are doing a roaring surge. If fta can’t manage a popular show properly as Foxtel can, people are turning to downloading the shows’ eps or buying the dvd boxsets.
Or perhaps the figures are too high for summer, considering the demos, and they are saving it for ratings. That only sounds like a good idea in theory though…
I reckon that 441k figure is not correct – otherwise you’re right why would they pull it. But If you remember the show got that figure on a night when Cricket in Perth pushed the start time of every other show back by the better part of an hour so although the overnights measure the intended timeslot of 10.30 to 11.30 it was mostly ER that was screening in that particular slot.
The adjusted figures (taking account of actual show times) don’t usually get cleared until the weekly list comes out but this being summer I’m guessing we’re not gonna get to see it – so my guess is Gossip Girl’s figure on that night was actually a lot lower.
Still – it doesn’t excuse Nine dropping the show so quickly.

the second i heard that it was coming back to 9 i knew that one day they would cut it multiple times and it would end up on ten where it is given a whole new life. just like the OC, smallville.
Nine obviously has no concept of the words ‘long term revenue’ and ‘short-term’ revenue’. If (but i doubt it) this move increases revenue in the short-term, the longer-term implications are worse than the short-term. They’re stuck in the dark-ages. But alas, the p2p filter and freeview will save them from all their (self-made) problems…..
They can’t save it for a later time really, not with Fox8 ahead of the game and the stars featuring in so many trashy mags. This move baffles me.
Mind you, given what Ten did to 90210 – although the inferior teen show – I don’t know that GG would have fared much better over on the youth network.
Its dead to too. I was actually getting into this show. I get p***** off when nine messes around with shows that i dont watch like fringe or mentalist, for the sake of its actual fans, but now i’m p o more. Gonna hav to beg some more this year for foxtel
Just one more bad programming decision and I think I’m ready to get out the pitchfork and torch to march on channels 9 and 10.
The programmers must operate out of some kind of black hole. Do they listen to anyone? I suppose all their decisions are revenue based but surely goodwill must be worth something. Wake up FTA!! The word “download” is now surely your worst nightmare.
Shouldn’t that be from tomorrow? Last time I checked E.R. / Gossip Girls were being screened on a Wednesday on Nine, while Season Two of GG airs on Fox 8 on a Tuesday.
Nine is dead to me.
Another summer show promised by channel nine for summer, only to be gone a few weeks later – who would have thought……
It is a good thing for me that I have been watching Gossip GIrl when it started earlier on FOX8 instead of 9, otherwise I would frustrated with 9 now over this.
That’s a really good 10:30pm rating for Summer! Nine are nuts. Or maybe they’re saving this for another time?
I’m happy but my daughter is going to be filthy about this! ER is my favourite show and I’ll soak it up right up until Nine pulls the plug (like they always do!)
I wonder how accurate the ratings are for the Gossip Girl demographic? Do they ever put these boxes in regional homes? Not everyone lives in cities where they can actually go do something instead of watch tv. Aside from McDonalds there is absolutely nothing here. Not even a cinema. I’d like one of those ratings meters in my house!

Looks like 2009’s going to be an even more pathetic year for FTA than last year. This is astonishingly incompetent programming on Nine’s part. And kind of ironic that they’re replacing it with years-old episodes of a show they forced people to download en masse back then, when they pulled the same kind of stunt. If FTA TV in this country’s not dead yet, Nine’s doing a damn good job of playing Grim Reaper.
It perhaps says something about how much I trust Nine these days that right now I’m looking at a little pile of DVD-ROM discs on my desk that contain Gossip Girl season 1 episodes 1 to 18, season 2 episodes 1 to 13. I didn’t download them, either. A friend was going to be at the same venue I was last weekend, and I mentioned I’d not bothered with the show until Nine screened it but actually enjoyed it – and that would trigger Murphy’s Law and they’d axe it. He offered to burn me the episodes of the show so far, and obviously brought them along with impeccable timing 🙂
Nine, I did the “right thing” and watched a show on your network. You responded by nuking it without notice. This really ain’t rocket science. You… Do know how to run a television station, right? Right? Bueller? Anyone remember where Nine was up to when they last aired it? It was only episode 3, wasn’t it?
9 can’t even get their own website right, it said this show aired christmas eve and new years eve when clearly it didn’t, they even put up little clips from the episodes. people were wondering when it would be back, with no guidance from 9 i told them it would be the 7th, thanks for making a liar out of me 9! lets just hope gossip girl pops up on the 2nd SD channel this is really pathetic. and yes, those are good ratings for the timeslot, what exactly were they expecting?
