Hollywood says G’day to Aussiewood

Rachel Griffiths and Eric Bana are due to be recognised by the foreign trade marketing event in Hollywood.

The G’Day LA event takes place today (our time) in Hollywood, which is staged by our Aussie Trade honchos. It attracts the press, and some television names. So despite the fact their awards don’t appear to be voted by peers, public or critics, let’s rattle off the guest list anyway.

Rachel Griffiths (also in the press for expecting her third child) will receive an Excellence in Film and Television award, presented by her Brothers and Sisters co-stars Sally Field and Matthew Rhys.

Eric Bana is going to walk home with an Excellence in Film gong, presented by Prison Break‘s William Fichtner, who starred alongside him in Black Hawk Down.

Also attending are Poppy Montgomery, Anthony LaPaglia, Jesse Spencer, Sam Worthington, as well as sports legend Rod Laver.

Simon Baker, who reportedly is considering US citizenship is also on the list. Last week he made a point of mentioning there were two Aussies nominated for Golden Globe Awards when he was presenting at the Beverly Hilton. Baker is hotter than hot in the States right now.

And yes, Melissa George, who says she already has US citizenship, is also an invitee…

Aimed at promoting Australian tourism and trade, the event wraps up with a second grand gala dinner, in New York on Friday, where Australia honours will be bestowed on Baz Luhrmann by the movie’s leading man, Hugh Jackman.

  1. hmmm 2 weeks ago Simon Baker wanted to disassociate himself with Australia – this week he’s out for a free feed and publicity at G’day Australia. Hypocrisy?

  2. Channel 9 usually make a big deal out of G’day USA…. but it coincides this week with the 44th Pres….are they doing anything with Dick Wolkins in LA
