Nancy Cartwright to voice Aussie cartoon

A Simpsons actor helps out an Aussie mate developing a series of animated shorts.

nancy_cartwrightNancy Cartwright is lending her voice to a TV character being created in Melbourne.

The character is ‘El Mariachi’, the brainchild of Studio Moshi co-directors Michael Amos and Andrew Davies. Cartwright, best known as the voice of Bart Simpson, is a close friend to Amos.

El Mariachi is a Mexican boy whose moustache gives him super powers. It is being developed as 52x11min shorts.

Studio Moshi  has spent eight months working on the script because they “won’t start anything else until we get the story right”.

So far no network has been announced for the project but the two creators plan to take the show to industry expos, including MipTV in Cannes this April.

“We’re hanging out to start working on our show,” said Amos.

Since Studio Moshi opened in 2005, its client list has included TV children’s channel Nickledeon, the ABC and video game companies.

El Mariachi’s pilot has development funding from Screen Australia and Film Victoria.
