Nine declares ratings schedule

Nine declares more of its schedule, confirming Underbelly, Farmer Wants a Wife, Ladette to Lady and the return of 60 Minutes and CSI.

farmer9Channel Nine has announced more details of its line-up across the next two weeks.

Underbelly secures a two hour premiere at 8:30pm Monday February 9th. A week later Aussie Ladette to Lady joins in the 9:30pm slot.

The Farmer Wants a Wife (pictured) will premiere 7:30pm February 11th, with Domestic Blitz moving to its regular Sunday 6:30pm slot following the end of Nine’s cricket commitments.

Also announced are Adults Only 20 to 1 for 8:30pm Thursday February 5th (the mind boggles, Bert!) and the return of 60 Minutes and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation on February 22nd.

“We are very excited about the schedule for the new year,”said Michael Healy, Nine’s Director of Programming. “It will really entertain Nine’s core audience of 25-54s and 18-49s and offer a great variety of new and returning shows.

“Nine is especially thrilled with the new series of Underbelly which will more than live up to audience expectations. It is just sensational.”

Ratings return Sunday February 8th.

  1. The 9 button on my remote will definitely gather dust this year. What an absolute shamble, such rubbish programming. Ladette to Lady, Farmer wants a wife, wipeout, 20 to 1, Ramsay nightmares, Only real quality hits are underbelly, CSI, blitz, 60 minutes, the latter under serious threat

The thing is Channel 7 have a heap of shows that they know and we know will do well, Border, 000 heroes, rspca, find my family, packed to the rafters, australia’s got talent, all saints, city homicide, criminal minds, better homes and gardens, home and away, how i met your mother. These are all certified hits (aside 000 heroes, bound to be) with guaranteed audiences.

People can praise nine about ‘all the new shows for 2009’ but really, they aint great or that worthy of praise. A decent network should start the year off with a fair amount of well established shows, of course hard for Nine to do after the shocking 2007 and 2008 years

  2. Well, there’s a wee bit less 2.5 men so that’s a plus I guess. Adults 20 to 1?? That made me lol. (It’s on at the adult time of 8:30 as well XD)

    I. Want. Temptation!

  3. yes, what was the point of starting the new series of ER last night if they’re not going to continue with it!!!!! David, any news at all about series 14 of ER?

  4. Farmer wants a wife, Laddette and Wipe out should all be on one night from 7.30. Underbelly followed by Laddette does not make any sense at all. Ch9 have no idea about the flow of their shows. These 2 are not even the same demo at all. Underbelly followed by Mentalist or a CSI even would make more sense and produce a blockbuster night for 9.

And ER? Where’s ER? Even if its a 10.30 show, its OK, as long as it continues. I’m sure many fans are hooked again after it being on through summer.

  5. Absolutely NeonKitten I couldn’t agree with you more. As to your question Benno I would have to think that Nine were:

    a) disorganised and didn’t get their info to the printers in time
    b) wanted to see what everyone else did before they set their programming
    c) need to confirm everything through seven layers of management, sales and PR before getting approval to release info
    d) all of the above

  6. I just looked in the Wednesday weekly TV guide, and there were a lot of TBA’s on nine’s schedule. Why is it that secretive? How is it that the US and loads of other TV networks can declare their schedule more than a month in advance, yet they can’t even declare a schedule days in advance? It should be common sense, but if people don’t know about when a show is on, how can they watch? Oh hang on, what if channel seven or ten puts on a show which may rate slightly higher. My bad, forget all that.

  7. slowlylu, NIne sold off all its potential tentpole drama serials. Cupboard’s bare, and tens of thousands are pirating in its wake.

This constant obsession with “winning the year”, “winning the week” blah blah blah… it has to stop. It’s the death of FTA television. Simple as that. The pathetic bitch-fight the networks are having with each other is just turning viewers away. In droves.

Just run a profitable business by fostering customer trust and loyalty, guys, and screw what the other networks are doing. How hard is that? Used to work, after all.

  8. I’m a little surprised at Cold Case being shoved back to 10.30pm. Not sure whether to be hopeful that it might stay put, or fearful that it will be one of the first to be pulled.

  9. boring!! my god im so glad 10 has a good lineup cause otherwise i wouldnt b watching tv at all! i cant wait for dance, loser, rescue, vet, rove, and new eps of law and order, ncis, simpsons and medium!!!

  10. Mmmm… 60 Minutes and maybe Underbelly is all that’s there for me… Underbelly 1 was far too slow – doesn’t bode well for #2.

Hopefully Footy Classified will be back – it’s the only Nine show I watch regularly (except Temptation which isn’t on any more)

  11. Let’s face it Nine are damned if they do and damned if they don’t. The biggest hole I perceive is that Nine is lacking a tentpole drama series (like ER, PTtR). Farmers will rate as will Underbelly and Ladette to Lady but none of these shows are built to endure, foster viewer loyalty and secure consistent ratings over more than one season to build Nine’s brand cache.
Once you’ve seen one bogan drunk girl make an idiot out of herself you’ve seen them all. How many Underbelly series can they honestly make?
It does make me wonder why Australian networks continue to programme to age demographics rather than more inituitive segments like filmsmovies do?

  12. Looks like a good line up to me. Compare this to Nine in 07 and it’s a huge improvement. Underbelly, Kitchen Nightmares USA and Aussie Ladette to Lady should all be worth watching, and I’ll definitely check out Adults Only 20 to 1.

Does anyone know whether they’re going to air the second season of Secret Diary? The first season rated very well for its timeslot but I remember then announcing the show at the start of the year, which they haven’t done this time.

  13. Although Seven not renewing their output deal with Fox (that Ten gladly took up and paid 50 mill for the 5 or 6 year contract) will badly hurt them in 2009, Seven look like they’ll beat Nine (just going on the mostly all 99 % negative feedback here, which Nine would definitely be reading) and win 2009, with the help of their Aus show line up.

While ratings for procedurals like Bones and Criminal Minds went up for Seven in 2008, their 2008 ratings for shows like Brothers and Sisters, Grey’s Anatomy, Desp Housewives, Lost, Heroes and Prison Break were all down – the last 3 shows named, will get dumped to 10.30 pm slots in 2009 (Lost is in it’s 2nd last season). Boston Legal’s final season that’s been slotted to 10.30 pm, only has 13 episodes. Once the now cancelled Prison Break (that has 8 episodes left) ends this year and 24 probably ends next year, the only Fox shows Seven will have, will be Bones, My Name is Earl, Family Guy and American Dad. Not that Seven care less, but Ugly Betty is looking like it’ll be getting cancelled, from declining US ratings.

  14. Yeah I agree with Teepee that having Farmer and Ladette back to back would have been a smart idea. They are taking risks by putting good shows up against other good shows on seven. I hope Nine win. Hope the risk pulls off.

  15. This lineup is terrible. The Mentalist is the only good show and that will bomb now that Nine are being stupid and putting it up against Criminal Minds again. Does anyone really feel interested in watching shows like Wipeout, Farmer Wants A Wife and Ladette To Lady? I don’t see why these shows would appeal to anyone. And as for 2.5 men being on 8 times a week, come on. That’s just woeful, this schedule is almost exactly the same as it was last year. Nine will still continue to rate bizarrely well though as ppl somehow are drawn to watching the same old 2.5 men eps 8 times a week and lowest common denominator rubbish like Farmer Wants A Wife (i.e. a country Bachelor) will end up getting 1.8 million viewers. What a joke.
