Survivor: Tocantins cast

An army sergeant, two multimillionaires, and three female models will compete for the $1m booty in the Brazilian Highlands.

The next 16 castaways who will be competing in Survivor have been announced.

Survivor: Tocantins, the eighteenth series is set in  the Brazilian Highlands and premieres in the US on February 12.

You can check out the eight men and eight women ranging from 19 to 53 include a cattle rancher, an army sergeant, two multimillionaires, and three female models.

This series includes the youngest ever contestants after producers lowered the age limit.

“Two tribes will be stranded in the majestic interior of Brazil for 39 days,” said host Jeff Probst. “The only relief in the midst of this unforgiving land is a river oasis [called] the Rio Novo. Scorching temperatures, torrential downpours, dangerous wildlife – who will have what it takes to outwit, outplay, and outlast all the others? Nine promised two seasons of the CBS reality show for summer, but is yet to announce plans for Survivor: Gabon. The likelihood of Tocantins screening anytime soon would surely be, like the show’s locations, remote…

– Stephen Fishbach, a 29-year-old corporate consultant from New York, NY

– James Thomas Jr., a 24-year-old cattle rancher from Samson, AK

– Spencer Duhm, a 19-year-old college student from Lakeland, FL

– Sydney Wheeler, a 24-year-old model and interior designer from San Diego, CA

– Jerry Sims, a 49-year-old U.S. Army sergeant from Rock Hill, SC

– Candace Smith, a 31-year-old actress/model and event planner and former lawyer from Los Angeles, CA

– Tyson Apostol, a 29-year-old bike-shop manager and former professional cyclist from Linden, UT

– Sierra Reed, a 23-year-old model from Los Angeles, CA

– Erinn Lobdell, a 26-year-old hairstylist from Waukesha, WI

– Carolina Eastwood, a 26-year-old bartender from Los Angeles, CA

– Tamara “Taj” Johnson-George, a 37-year-old from Nashville, TN

– Joe Dowdle, a 26-year-old commercial real estate broker from Austin, TX

  2. I love all the reality tv shows Nine airs and Survivor is no exception. In fact, it could be my all time favourite (ssshhh, don’t let the other shows hear me say that, I do love them all!) I know we have missed a number of seasons, which disappoints me, but I’m happy to watch any new seasons that Nine chooses to air. It surprises me that it doesn’t even get a late night spot if Nine doesn’t want to air it during prime time. Some time, any time, just please air all Survivors – there are a lot of us fans out there!

  3. We are already one season behind, and now a new season is showing in the US. Come on Nine, get your act together. I’m pretty sure we used to see each episode of Survivor a couple of days after it was on in the US.

  5. Nine should make an australian version of Wife Swap. It’s such a funny show at it would be interesting to see a suburban mum in a country house with all the animals and stuff.

  6. Yes – you’re right Henry – the Fans vs Favourites concept of Micronesia would have been a perfect springboard to make a serious attempt at rebuilding the show’s audience. It was a great marketing opportunity as it was different to the norm and past viewers may have tuned in to see some of their favourite competitors of past series.

    But, Nine don’t really get IT – just look at how they aired the final episode/finale/reunion show. Over two nights (late nights/early mornings) – where they could have had viewers (those who didn’t know the outcome) hanging by a thread until the next night – but no – instead they announced the winner at the tai end of night one, then expected viewers to stay up late again to just watch the reunion. lol – mind you, I did 🙂

    All they need to do is package Survivor, back to back with another show that is likely to have a similar viewer base (Ladette to Lady, Farmer Wants a Wife or Wife Swap come to mind) – give fans a two hour reality fix and draw them away from the crime shows. The thing with these shows is once you are hooked, you are hooked for the whole season.

  7. Nine’s refusal to air Marquesas is effectively what killed the franchise in Australia; it’s ratings lost momentum with Thailand, thus bumping The Amazon to the later time slot of 9:30pm. Aside from All-Stars, the show never recovered ratings wise.

    Micronesia would of been the perfect time to relaunch the series…but alas, Nine is blind to the bleeding obvious.

  11. People dont u understand, the last series was one of nines highest rating 10.30 shows of the last decade. No wonder they dont want to show it until at least february, why waste it in non-ratings period??? it will return thats for sure, nine are just teasing us.

  13. Yeah – Timmy. I get that re: people meters. But it is just as much a matter of principle. I want to support FTA tv – it’s an industry that employs many people and provides (or used to ) a great service. I keep hoping someone or something will wave a magic wand and fix it – but to a degree I think you’re right.

    I still don’t know anyone who’s actual viewing habits impact on the official ratings – and I am extremely sceptical that in this day and age they couldn’t come up with a better system of accurately working out who is watching/recording what. You would think there could be some $$$ to be made by someone in the field, but they seem to happy with what they’ve got.

    There still are a lot of people out there that can’t just access everything via the net. But yes, it is very tempting.

  15. Yup – sorry Channel 9 advertisers, they’ve screwed you over by being so far behind. I won’t be watching your commercials coz I’ve already seen Gabon.

    If 9 was to Fastrack Tocatins and put off Gabon till later, I’d happilly avoid the torrent.

  16. ka-ching – unless you have a people-meter, it won’t make an ounce of difference to Nine whether you download it now or wait an eternity for them to show it at 11pm sometime in 2010.

  17. Thanks L – you might think I’m crazy but I have really resisted the whole download thing as far as Survivor and other relaity shows go – unless I miss an episode. I really don’t want the channels to give up on such great shows. Not everyone has internet access ( I do) or Pay TV (I don’t) and I really think these shows should be made more accessible via free-to-air (even if the timeslot stinks). i think any drop in ratings has been brought about by theri treament of the shows themselves – moving them around days/times and not keeping up with their U.S. screenings. once we give up on them and just download, I see no future for them on FTA.

  18. Torrent the show. It’s much better than waiting around a minimum 6 months for 9 to screen it. CBS also puts out extra videos now (secret scenes, confessionals and ponderosa) via youtube after each episode (they are up for Gabon if and when 9 decide to screen it). And its easier to find and read up on exit interviews if want further insight into the game or just are a hardcore Survivor fan in general.

  20. I am getting a little tired of begging Channel 9 programmers to do the right thing by Survivor’s ever loyal fans. They don’t seem to want to hear anything we have to say. I’m sure there is a whole generation of new fans just waiting – if they would just show the program at a reasonable time – to get families back into it. My kids really miss it as it has just been on too late for them.

    Please give us Gabon at least!!
