Actor Bernie Hamilton, who played the no-nonsense police captain on Starsky and Hutch, has died. He was 80.

Hamilton died of cardiac arrest on Tuesday night which would arguably make him 2008’s last celebrity death.

Hamilton appeared in more than 20 films, including The Young One, The Devil at 4 O’Clock, Synanon, The Swimmer, Walk the Walk and The Organization.

On Starsky and Hutch, Hamilton played the brusque, by-the-book Capt. Harold Dobey, a role that gave him wide recognition to this day, his son said.

  2. Mr. Hamilton’s contribution to the film industry is worth remembering. He is indeed a great actor and will surely be remembered. Our condolences to the family and friends he has left behind. We sincerely pray for his soul that he may rest in peace.
