Airdate: Customs. Gone: Big Bang Theory

Vince Colosimo will narrate Nine's UK-based series on drug traffickers, people smugglers and international terrorists.

underbelly1Vince Colosimo will narrate Nine’s new factual series Customs, which looks at drug traffickers, people smugglers and international terrorists.

Updated: The series is the combined footage from two UK series purchased by Nine , one which was originally called Border Force, but has been retitled in Oz for obvious reasons.

Publicity notes indicate, “From immigration raids to deporting illegal workers and busting drug smugglers, these dedicated officers are ever vigilant in tracking down and exposing criminal activity at the gateways to the nation.”

The series will air at 8pm Monday Feb 9th on Nine, effectively replacing The Big Bang Theory.

This week Nine has copped quite a bit of criticism over television print guides failing to reflect what ultimately airs, with some even suggesting Nine had put out misinformation to throw the opposition off the scent.

Of course, Seven didn’t confirm its plans for Border Security until Friday either…

  1. Good thing i didnt even bother to get into BBT on 9, i watched using, um….. and it only gets better, if thats possible!
As for this factual, it’ll die quickly. Hopefully wont even last till the next week! Just aslong as its not replaced with even more 2.5men, ill die then!

  2. Haha! Big Bang Theory ‘creative’, knoxoverstreet? It recycles every overdone nerd stereotype of the past 30 years, and badly at that. Truly bad TV. Good riddance.

  3. For those that gave up watching BBT after a few episodes in my opinion only got better as the serires when on (especially the ones at the end of Season 2, not yet shown), you missed a good show. I suggest you obtain a downloaded copy.

  4. The BBT was not doing that bad, close to a million viewers and the worse part is its being taken off for a factual, how about they at least try new christine in that slot.

  5. Travis, the ratings season never ends these days. The only thing that officially ends is the inter-network-exec size contest.

The whole concept of “ratings season” and “non ratings season” has been blown out of the water the past two summers by the simple fact that the networks are obviously anxiously awaiting overnight ratings figures and acting on them by screwing with the schedule. In other words, just like the rest of the year.

  6. Sure, they’re pissing off 900,000 viewers (which is terrible for the ratings season at 8pm) but it seems to be a good move to pick up disenfranchised Border Security viewers on a Monday Night.

  7. Excuse me while i obtain the latest BBT episode. Again, shows not quite making 1m viewers are tossed to the curb, treated like trash. They just don’t learn, do they?

This show replaced by a factual, it’s Deja Vu. I agree with RichoTB, ‘Customs’ is likely to mirror the racist stereotypes that Border Security (BS) uses.

  8. Seems a pretty strange lead in to 2.5 men and I doubt it rate much better than TBBT but I will be watching it I know it is tragic but I love factuals I just wish they would have the original narrators instead of changing them

  9. @ travis, yes i realise that i said it in my comment. i apologise is the sentence structure was out of line. what i meant was more along the line of “the first show scheduled to air in the ratings season to be cut”

  10. Well there Nine goes pissing off 950,000 viewers with the removal of BBT. I never got into the show past the first 3 episodes, just didn’t find it funny, but I know a lot of ppl found it enjoyable. If Nine left it for another 8 episodes they’d finally be up to date with the US, oh well. As for the replacement, more racist bullcrap that depicts all foreigners as terrorists or drug/vegetable smuggling second-class people with broken English. We do live in a multicultural society and its a wonderful thing, pity our TV stations don’t reflect this with factual crap like this on air. It really is pathetic that there is a show of this sort to begin with, but when Nine attempt to copy it with a foreign version, its even worse.

  11. Correct me if I am wrong, but BBT, wasn’t this only ever going to be a summer fill in program for nine, that wouldn’t last after the first or second week of Feb when the ratings start up again?

  12. I was watching BBT even though I’ve seen the eps (just got done watching this weeks from the US) so I will not be tuning in for more drama/crime shows, I’m even having 2nd thoughts about watching Underbelly knowing it will likely be out on DVD soon enough.

So again we have 2.5 Men 8 times a week but no room for another sitcom, no good ch9 and you wonder why you lost the last 2 years!

  13. so the first cut of the ratings season went to big bang theory. damn i would have put money on flashpoint, ramsay, 20 to 1, or wipeout. gee ratings haven’t started yet.

i guess this is great news for HIMYM fans. but puts 9’s monday leadin mess in even more of a mess i mean 2.5 men lead in to a border show. wierd. why are they messing with underbelly’s lead in? the HIMYM 2nd ep will probably dominate now i can imagine the mass of people that pick up the remote at 8:00.

they haven’t got long to promote it. i wonder if anyone will be up to watching border securiy 2 days in a row.

  14. They may have retitled the show for obvious reasons but it sure didn’t stop them rather blatantly mentioning the competition on the promos…

Well, I guess you can say they’re at least acknowledging its a copy.
