Gone: Flashpoint

Canadian action drama is gone in a Flash from the Nine schedule. Plus an update on Without a Trace.

flashpoint3More decision making at Nine has seen it change plans for Wednesdays, which were issued yesterday.

Canadian drama Flashpoint is now out of schedule entirely, replaced by a second repeat episode of Cold Case.

This means Wednesdays are now:

7.30 The Farmer Wants a Wife
8.30 The Mentalist
9.30 Cold Case
10.30 Cold Case rpt

Elsewhere Nine has also decided NOT to bring back new Without a Trace this Sunday night at 11pm, instead opting for a repeat and delaying the series return until 10.30pm Sunday March 1.

Perhaps if Nine hadn’t slated confusing “Sneak Peek’s with out of sequence Flashpoint episodes it might have drawn a bigger audience.

  1. Arrggh! I dnt even know why I even bother watching TV anymore. Im so sick of the channels screwing every1 around all the time. First it was channel 10 with 90210, etc. Putting shows on for a few episodes and taking them off and now its happening on channel 9. They’re just lucky it’s coming out on dvd on 16th April 2009 but that’s still too long to wait. Grr!!

  2. yet agian im a victim of the network programmers i sit there through their shitty advertising and be paient with their changing around of timeslots and then they just go canncel a great show all toghter so what em i going to do im going to go and download flashpoint and others because i have no choice so F@#%K the networks and there ratings and advertising revenue imgoing to get me full seasons of uninterrupted free of advertising Flashpoint.
ps sorry bout the spelling im just so mad!!!!!

  3. A show I was getting into only to find the episodes were all out of order and in a jumble. Honestly are there retarded people scheduling the shows for nine? A monkey could do a better job, and keep shows on time.

  4. *shame* I hadn’t checked this site, and my tv guide still said Flashpoint for tonight … but no.

I was reading the Herald Sun tv guide two weeks ago … title page had Mark Harmon, and spoke about the late-blooming NCIS (or words to that effect). CBS invested in a show, gave it time to grow, and now it rates well. Does Nine think that’s old fashioned? Perhaps, just as attempting to watch free-to-air tv is perhaps old-fashioned. Have they even tried watching what they broadcast?

Seriously, it really does make you wonder if there even IS anyone at the helm of scheduling any more …,*hangs head in disgust*

  5. Great. Flashpoint is gone. Another show I was really beginning to get into. Thanks, Nine, for dangling the carrot and then taking it away altogether. And you expect me to remain loyal to your brand? I think not.

  6. Don’t hold your breath Grantley, only the advertising campaign will begin in late March. I reckon it will be at least another half a year before 9 launch one of their multi-channels. If nine can be so incompetent that they will launch a new series out of order, imagine the incompetence that their multi-channeling will become.

  7. I actually like Flashpoint. The sneak peaks worked on me and got me into it. Hopefully shows that are put on the back burner like this are programmed on the other digital channels once “freeview” begins in late March

  8. *headdesk*

They don’t even give it a chance at 10.30? At this point untrained monkeys would do a better job.

According to ezydvd’s website, looks like the season 1 dvds may be released in a couple of months (as long as there isn’t another series named the same). It’s funny how so many of the shows that the channels mistreat go great guns on dvd…

  9. While I did not have the misfortune to experience this specific ‘episode’ by our FTA TV stations, it is why when I see a great show on TV I stop watching it on FTA and go an buy the DVD’d when the price is at what I want to pay.

Too many times have FTA pulled a TV show, changed the time slot from week to week, started showing repeats on alternate weeks or as in the ER example, wait 12, 18 even 24 months to show it here.

It is why I got used to buying the TV series in the 1st place as I got sick of waiting 2 years to see a TV series.

I think that it is a conflict of interest when FTA owns or is involved in pay tv. It would not be past belief that some big wigs in the FTA really think that if they stuff us about enough that we will all head on over to pay tv.

  10. No way flashpoint was going to survive with the completely random order that channel 9 was showing the episodes.
I wonder if the show would have pulled bigger numbers if channel 9 had shown the episodes in their intended order, I for one think that it would have made a difference. Besides, channel 9 never gave a reason for the random ordering, it was ridiculous.
*says in super hero voice*: “To the internet!!” 😛
    You know what I mean….

  11. Ch 9 should simply chop everything and re-launch – that’s their only hope. Start again. Re-do their programming completely, think outside the square. Re-design their look, full make over. Trash shows gone or out to late nights / late weekends. Show FlashPoint from the start, every week, but later at night – its not the greastest show but has more potential then alot of their other shows. They have the rights to so many shows, yet do nothing with them.

ER is one good example. The final ever happens in US in April, with the likes of George Clooney coming back for last eps – we are now nearly 2 seasons behind. If they played ER, once a week from now till end of year, same time evry week, on time, it will do well. Shows don’t last 15 years if they are crap.

And, like so many comments above: stop hitting panic button over ratings for one night. Start growing audiences. Get a routine. Give shows a chance. Show them in order. Commit to shows. Every week. On time. Build loyalty. New shows on before repeats.

  12. Even though I don’t mind ‘Flashpoint’, ‘Cold Case’ is my favourite show on tv right now, so I’m thrilled Channel 9 will now be screening two episodes of it in a row 🙂 … I stopped watching ‘Flashpoint’ when ‘Gangs Of Oz’ started on Channel 7, but now I’ll stop watching that as well, since it clashes with ‘Cold Case’…
