Kelsey Grammer to direct Cybill Shepherd

New comedy pilots are announced in the US, one with Cybill Shepherd and another with Anne Heche.

cybillKelsey Grammer will direct Cybill Shepherd in a new comedy pilot Alligator Point.

It will be produced by Grammer’s production company, which already co-produces Medium.

The comedy centres around an eccentric group of Florida residents who find refuge in the Southern hospitality of an Oyster Bar run by her character, Mae. Their lives change when a Yankee (Stamile) becomes part of their disjointed family.

The pilot was originally developed for NBC in 2002 with another cast.

Shepherd, who has recently appeared in The L Word and Psych, will also have an upcoming guest role in Criminal Minds.

Meanwhile, former Men in Trees star Anne Heche will co-star on HBO’s new series Hung, a dark comedy, which was picked up for 10 episodes. She will play the ex wife of “a well-endowed struggling high school basketball coach”, replacing another actress in scenes to be re-shot.

  1. I hope Alligator Point isn’t a corny sitcom. Besides one show (Back to You), the only comedies I’ve liked lately have been the ones without the laugh track.

I’m surprised at how quickly Anne Heche seemed to have recovered. Not long ago, she was talking about going bankrupt. Lucky for her she got this role.

  2. This will no doubt get cancelled 3 episodes in.

Which is a shame because I like Cybill and Kelsey needs to catch a break lately.

As for Hung, I remember seeing part of the pilot leaked online a while ago.

Will be curious to see what the finished product is.

  3. I would expect either Seven or Ten to get this series for next year. Probably Seven because this show will be on Lifetime of which one of its grandparents is Disney so Disney should get the international distribution rights.

  4. koverstreet says “Looks like Cybill has had some serious work done”

Wow, she sure has: she’s unrecognisable.

She looks great, but only in that uber-cheesy Extreme Makeover kind of way.

  5. Looks like Cybill has had some serious work done sadly.

We all know Cybill does comedy well when given the right material (Moonlighting)so it could be worth checking out.
