dacademyABC TV has announced two new Australian children’s drama series aimed at an 8 to 12 year audience, totalling around 20 hours of television

As previously reportedDance Academy is a 26×30 minute series in which 15-year-old Tara Webster has grown up on a farm in outback Australia but has always dreamt of becoming a dancer. When she makes it into the National Academy of Dance – the best school in the country – she is sure her life will change spectacularly.

The series is produced by Werner Film Productions for ABC TV and Germany’s ZDF. The drama promises that if you thought a dance school was all about pink tutus and pretty pointe shoes, you’re dead wrong…

My Place is a 13×30 minute series based on the award-winning book of the same name by Nadia Wheatley and Donna Rawlins. The series tells the story of one house in South Sydney told by the children who live there over 130 years.

My Place will aim to show that everyone is part of history, and will be accompanied by an interactive and informative website .

It is produced by Chapman Pictures.

ABC TV Director of Television Kim Dalton said: “These two new programs will enhance and strengthen our diverse slate of Australian-made children’s television.

“These dramas will further compliment programs, such as the second series of Escape From Scorpion Island and new animations like CJ the DJ and Figaro Pho offering children a variety of content with an Australian viewpoint.”

Both series will be shot in Sydney and will go  into pre-production this month.

  1. Oh Hopefully I can still audition it says ages to 8 to 12, but im turning thirteen this year. Im desperate to do acting, but the show sounds brilliant bye the way. And Where are the audditions?

  2. Hey is the new show are we there yet travel show on ABC? When is it coming out>
It has in it from Scorpion Island Jeremy Hartley so I thought maybe on ABC?

  3. Blue Water High (Series 3) was the only new kids drama shown by the ABC last year. Unless you want to count Escape from Scorpion Island as drama too.

So only 13 hours shown last year, which is rather shocking.

  4. I can’t tell you the nostalgia I felt upon reading about My Place. I first read the book in primary school and as an adult I still think its a fantastic children’s book. The format of the book should make for a very interesting TV series.
