Mourning Services for Sunday

Updated: The schedule for all five networks plus Sky News for the National Day of Mourning this weekend.

sunsetTelevision networks are being asked to cover  the National Day of Mourning this weekend.

Seven has announced Weekend Sunrise will extend from 7am to 12pm.

This will include the Mourning Service from Rod Laver Arena at 11am.

Weekend Sunrise is hosted by Samantha Armytage and Andrew O’Keefe, who will no doubt be in a sombre mood for the occasion.

SBS will also broadcast live for one hour:
WA: 9am
NT: 9:30am
SA: 10:30am
QLD: 10am
Eastern States: 11am (their words not mine!)

The ABC will broadcast this Sunday’s national memorial service for Victoria’s bushfire victims live across the country at 11am (AEDT) on ABC1. The service will be held in Melbourne, to mark a National Day of Mourning and an opportunity to reflect on the loss of life, and to salute the courage of the fire-fighters and volunteers. This national broadcast will be available on ABC TV, radio and online.

The national memorial service will screen at the following times on ABC1 at:
9am Western Australia
9.30am Northern Territory
10am Queensland
10.30am South Australia
11am Victoria, NSW, ACT and Tasmania

TEN:
Melbourne and Sydney – 11am Live
Brisbane – 10am Live
Adelaide – 10.30am Live
Perth – 9.00am Live

Nine:
7:00am Today
11:00am A National Day Of Mourning

SKY NEWS:
Live coverage at 1100 – with complete replays at 1430 and 2030 on Sky News and at 1300, 1800 and 2200 on A-PAC.

  1. I guess I’m old fashioned. I don’t think sitting @ home on the couch really constitutes as mourning. I’ve seen information that several churches on my walk-to-work route are having special services and I’m sure they’d welcome new people. I know in my area there are always people willing to give lifts to the old/infirm for such things and everyone else should be able to make the teeny bit of effort required to put on a decent shirt and leave the house. Mourning should not be a spectator sport.

  2. I don’t believe “sombre” is in Andrew O’Keefe’s repertoire. I’ll be amazed if he makes it through the service without at least one inappropriate comment.
