Networks adjust schedules for bushfires

Nine and Seven provide extended News bulletins to cover the Victorian bushfires, delaying Sunday Night's premiere in Melbourne by 30 mins.

firevicNetworks are adjusting their schedules in Melbourne due to the extent of bushfires in the state of Victoria.

Updated: 173 lives have been lost, over 750 homes destroyed with a 100km firefront and towns razed.

The threat is far from over.

Both Nine News and Seven News in Melbourne are expected to air extended bulletins to 7pm.  Seven coverage begins as early as 4:30pm. TEN News has also aired a special one hour bulletin from Melbourne, instead of its normal Sydney weekend bulletin.

TV Tonight is advised by a spokesperson in  Melbourne the premiere of Sunday Night is pushed out to 7-8pm (Vic only).

The All in Call will air in Melbourne at 8pm on 7HD, 7:30pm elsewhere.

  1. I agree, Sky News should be a FTA Channel, They will cover far more news that Any FTA Channel would.. and could all share the news stories with all FTA Networks easier..

  2. Today on Snday was better than Sunrise this morning – I was watching Today – decided to switch over to Sunrise to see what they were doing and they were talking to Nelson Aspen???? Lets have some perspective people.

  3. Mark, I guess you’re not in Melbourne. I am, and have relatives in Marysville, Kinglake and Warragul who cannot be reached. Any extra coverage of the fires is good. Have a little sympathy for those affected.

  4. What’s going to Happen with Out of the Blue for Victorian Viewers, I hope Ten Melbourne delays Loser, Dance and Rove by 30 Minutes to allow the News to Finish?

  5. Ten has extended its 5pm Sunday news to one hour in Melbourne to cover the bushfires, so the first of a planned double Out of the Blue is out of the schedule. If I were Ten, I’d chuck in a Simpsons at 6pm to maintain some consistency and lead in to Biggest Loser.

  6. @ Luke W. Yes, I would expect all of 7’s shows to be a half hour later in Melbourne.

7 News should be commended for their huge news bulletin today. It’s even streaming Live into Perth.

  7. @thesportsfreak
Absolutely agree. If they can make A-PAC a FTA channel in one area, surely Sky News should be a FTA channel nationally. They are the only channel to have continuous, decent coverage.

  8. @Mark
Dude, you are crass!! Exactly what would it take for you to actually care? A Nuclear attack maybe? A Massive bombing in the CDB of Sydney? If so, a bushfire in parts of Victoria,South Australia and NSW is obviously not important to you, but rather when Program XYZ is going to air tonight.
Grow up and stop thinking about youself….. TV programs can be rescheduled, People can’t!!

  9. This is starting to make me think that Sky News (or something like it) should be a FTA digital channel. I’ve been out all day and only just switched on, and the coverage they are providing in what can only be described as an extremely difficult time is mighty good.

  10. Mark, you perhaps prefer to find out what Paris Hilton ate for dinner last night? Or which D-lister DUI’ed most recently? Either that or you’re a cynical bastard. Perhaps in this celebrity-infested world we live in you’re forgotten what News is meant to be, and what News used to be like. A dissemination of information, not of gossip.

The free-to-air networks are (rather badly) keeping people up to date. Those who live nearby who may have to flee. Those who have loved ones affected by this disaster. People like myself who live in area with similar conditions who thankfully don’t have the threat on their doorstep. I really doubt that Bunnings or Tankworld are pimping up their advertising to make some sort of macabre profit from the misfortune of others. And of course the press is going to make $$’s out of this. I’d rather the rubberneckers watch TV than head out into the fireground.

Cleavy: I remember one of the most emotional things I’ve ever heard on radio was 26-odd years ago during Ash Wednesday, a report from a major radio station watching his home going up in flames. Not self indulgent. Just honest reporting.

  11. The first inkling I got of the devastation in VIC was an email from BBC News that 14 people had perished: received at 0200 this morning. whilst I can’t talk for all of Queensland our hearts go out to the folks in VIC who have lost loved ones, stay strong…

  12. Channel Nine is Queensland is on an hour delay (from the live cricket) so the news can be shown at 6pm (it was scheduled for 5pm AEST during the innings break). However at 3pm AEST the online EPG, printed tv guides and even NineMSN’s own website are still showing the news will be on at 5pm. No one is going to know the news is on at 6pm, and Channel Nine have shown contempt for all cricket fans.

And I assume by showing the news an hour later, we’ll still see on what Sydney viewers see anyway.

  13. @Jason…Fully agreed!! This will go on for days now, probably the funerals for all the dead will be telecast, Jamie Durie will be filmed re-building homes and gardens…there is a limit.

  14. i just heard on the radio that the people at 9 are still “deciding wether an apology in necessary” for their disgraceful coverage. even if they decide to i doubt many people will be watching after last night.

  15. I was surprised when I heard the death toll on Sky News just before going to bed, here in Qld we had more coverage of the floods to the north. Sky News had live cross at midnight.

  16. Putting the fires aside, and I do feel for all those caught up in the chaos, but does this push Channel 7’s sunday lineup back half an hour (border 8:00, 000 heroes 8:30, CH 9:00) or will one show be written off tonight? (e.g. 000 heroes getting the chop tonight so it’s border 8:00, CH 8:30)

  17. Fair enough to change the Schedules, This is a serious situation happening around Australia at the Moment. The Bushfires in VIC, The Heatwave in NSW & SA, The Floods in QLD. This are uncertain times.

  18. Oh, and just one other thing, very well said Kuttysywood “Condolences to those who have lost their lives in this unbelievable tragedy, that will leave a big scar on the psyche for years to come.” All the best on dealing with the horrific sitution at hand guys, stick in there, and I wish you all the very best. Will be thinking and praying for you in the hope the situation improves. Take care.

  19. We here in Gippsland currently have no transmission for Prime/WIN/ABC and SBS….Ten is the only thing still going. Fire must have ripped through the transmitter or something.

TV seems very unimportant when friends and work colleagues have their lives and homes under threat….but at the same time we are missing a vital source of information.
