Reminder to Seven and Nine

It's February -and still no word on plans for Seven and Nine's new channels.

reminderWe’re now into the second month of 2009, less than a week to go before the official start of ratings.

And still, no word from Seven and Nine on their plans for a second digital channel.

Commercial Free to Air networks were free to launch these a month ago. While TEN has promised its 24 hr sports channel ONE HD (and ONE SD) from April, Seven and Nine are still to announce their intentions.

Networks have had months to prepare for these channels, which we are promised will comprise part of Freeview’s 15 channels. Sexy new ads tease us to convert to digital and HD, but the actual content remains a mystery.

On that note too, we still don’t  have a start-up date for Freeview either.

  1. Take the rights away from 7 and 9 to broadcast a 2nd SD channel and give them to SKY News and the Weather Channel.
If we would do this the whole nation would be informed about important issues.
We need a free to air Weather Channel to inform us all about dangerous Weather coming up.
7 and 9 don’t care about us viewers at all. All they are interested is money…

  2. looks like 10 is moving ONE forward to late march. someone said they mentioned this during the superbowl and their latest press release on the corporate website which announces they have the rights to golf now confirms the march start…
“ONE will broadcast from late March in High Definition (HD) on Digital Channel 1 and also in Standard Definition (SD) on Digital Channel 12. Those events not appearing on TEN prior to late March will air on Ten-HD (Digital Channel 1).”

  3. 15 Channels! Them ’em they’re dreaming – out of the three that TEN promises, two of them will show the same content. Will that be the same from the others?

  4. I actually don’t think there is a need for Channel 7/9 to go with a theme like “lifestyle” or “comedy” for their second channel.

I would be happy enough for them to screen the shows they dump mid season. Rather than wait till summer or after midnight. I am sure in the future they will still be dumping shows.

That way they keep the audience happy. And capture the audience for niche shows during primetime.

  5. “Fizzin” writes words of genius:

“never a bigger cause to stick one’s finger down one’s throat is reality tv, dancin’, singin’, weight loosin’, cookin’, house sellin’, renovationin’ the whole gamit, what an absolute turnoff”

I honestly could not have put that better myself. Though you forgot rescuin’ and arrestin’ 🙂

Andrew: “have the networks also considered that this can be used to their advantage by getting eyeballs tuned to their second channel that would normally not watch whatever is on the main channel, and might actually stop some viewers darting across to Foxtel.”

Once again, well said. The FTA networks just don’t get it; they’re so caught up in their competition to “win” over each other on a daily, weekly, monthly and yearly basis that they cannot see the simple truth: their fight to “win” is just like the drunken punch-on that clears out everyone else in the bar.
