Returning: RPA. Gone: Kitchen Nightmares.

After lousy first night figures, Nine tells Gordon Ramsay to "F" off.

grknJust one day after his season return, Nine has dumped Gordon Ramsay.

From next week Kitchen Nightmares is replaced by the return of RPA.

Last night the show attracted just 515,000 viewers. In Brisbane where the show didn’t air CSI: New York took 144,000 viewers – a timeslot total of 649,000.

It was thumped by the premiere of Life on Mars with 1.14m and Grey’s Anatomy on 1.08m.

Both Ramsay and CSI: NY have been removed by Nine effective immediately.

Just 12 months ago Gordon Ramsay was a hero of Nine’s, but played as many as three times a week has undermined his long term appeal to Aussie viewers. It has also been a show that put Nine in hot water with ACMA.

Earlier this week Nine Programmer Michael Healy was reported as saying Nine’s schedule was not packed with risky shows which would fall by the wayside quickly.

In the lead up to the start of ratings, Nine has lost four nights to Network TEN this week.

  1. Whilst it may not officially be ratings season this week, I think it should still be included. 7 and Ten have basically unveiled their entire sched, and 9 about half of it.

IMO first axings of the “ratings” season this year are Big Bang and Ramsay. First move to graveyard 24.

  2. Barrie hit the nail on the head. Not everyone gets their TV info from EPGs and internet – and why should they. There’s nothing like having the guide next to your lounge and near your TV! Missing the printed guide deadlines for Sunday papers would be a major contributor (other than content itself, of course) as to why 9 is 3rd this week.

Perhaps if it started on time, it may have done better. It was 15 minutes late to start.

  3. I used to love bashing Nine, now its not even fun any more because they are just hopeless. They won’t dig themselves out of their hole, they’re not even fighting anymore in the ratings, its like they’re screwing up and losing just for the sake of it. Are they intentionally shooting themselves in the face??

  4. Ramsay was amusing for a while, but they overplayed his shows, and I got tired of the same old f*#k f*#k f*#k act week after week.

Nine deserves to fail, and they are.

  5. The sooner 7 & 9 get their 2nd SD channels up the better, then they can ‘dump’ these shows their and as long as the onscreen guides are kept up-to-date everyone will be happy.

Maybe they need more staff keeping track of shows and guides updated?

  6. Ramsay flopped last time they brought him back, why did they think this time would be any different? Good riddance, I think Nine have finally realised this guy’s shelf life is well and truly stale. It will now dissolve to 10:30 filler, if its even brought back on air again on the normal channel

  7. I like Ramsey but I like RPA even better so I am glad that if they have to replace Ramsey it is with RPA at least I can get my Ramsey fix on you tube wonder how many more shows will last 1 episode on 9

  8. Why would anybody bother choosing Nine in 09′ when they continue to chop and change their schedule as often as they do

Underbelly may well be their only decent-rating series of the season

  9. Yes nine marketing should be sacked for not having a TV guide ready. I didn’t even know Ramsey was on. Why should I bother having to find out from the internet whats on if nine can’t be bothered printing a tv guide. I checked the TV guide and saw “Life on Mars” was on so I was curious to see if it was like the UK version. It was exactly the same and I decided that i wouldn’t bother with it next week. I wonder if LOM ratings will dramatically drop next week as well after the curiosity factor. Ramsey could make a comeback yet.

  10. wasn’t his show cut just after the olympics after it pulled similar numbers. not sure what they were expecting here. i have no sympathy for 9 they brought this 100% on themselves while being greedy airing 3 eps a week.

shows scheduled to air in ratings period to be canceled tally:
    ABC: nil
    SBS: nil
    seven: nil
    TEN: nil
nine: 2 – big bang theory, ramsay

pshish, ratings hasn’t even started. i’d say the next to go will be among flashpoint, wipeout, or singing bee. all of 7 and 10’s shows seem to be doing ok

  11. Can anyone enlighten me as to what’s happened to Shark on 7 @ 2pm Mon-Fri??? It was replaced today by last Monday’s ep of Desperate Housewives. Shock – Horror. Just give me my Shark eps, please….

  12. Why the hell are Nine not screening RPA at 8.30? It was doing 1.4 at the start of 2008 and would definitely do good against two very young skewing shows.

Nine has traditionally been my favorite channel but they’re driving me nuts with some of their stupid moves!

  13. So the score so far has Nine leading with 2 changes (Ramsay and Big Bang Theory), followed by Seven with 1 (24 replaced by Bones), and Ten with no changes. I would love to see some sort of counter on the home page keeping track of changes for each network this year.

  14. What do they expect, putting it against Life On Mars and Grays Anatomy? One has been over-advertised to the max and the other is a cult favorite. Ramsay’s wasnt even in the TV book for god sake! Nine are idiots. This is getting ridiculous.

  15. They’re arguably bad ratings, and i think nine are starting to realise the meaning of the word ‘overexposure’ – well except with 2 1/2 men. Then again, nine management are idiots, so i wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t even know that much.
