A former Big Brother UK contestant, Goody sadly lost her battle with the disease on March 22, but having quite an effect in the UK media.

It was whilst in India in August 2008, making an appearance on another reality based television show, that Jade would learn of the life changing news. Two days into filming, she was told – live on air in the show’s diary room – that she had been diagnosed with cervical cancer.

Despite leaving the program and returning home to Britain to deal with the shock diagnosis, Jade Goody kept the cameras rolling. In a controversial decision, she allowed cameras to film the final months of her life – no holds barred. Jade felt very strongly that it was important to broadcast her battle with cancer, shining her incredible torch of honesty on a subject that affects so many.

This emotional 5 part program shows Jade as she undergoes treatment, doing the ‘school run’, managing social and business commitments, organising her wedding and hospital baptism of her sons, all whilst managing the grueling side affects of the radiotherapy she was undergoing regularly.

Jade speaks openly about her determination to live life as normally as possible since the diagnosis for the sake of her children. In touching scenes, the mother of two is seen sharing precious moments with her sons Bobby, 5, and Jack, 4, keeping a smile on her face for her boys, who were not aware of the seriousness of their mother’s illness.

The shock diagnosis also began Jade’s crusade for awareness and early cervical cancer screening. Despite the knowledge that the disease would take her own life, by making her private battle public she has left a lasting legacy of her extraordinary bravery, beauty, humour and dignity and a vastly increased awareness of cervical cancer that could save thousands of lives around the world.

The Bio Channel will screen part one of this 5 part profile on Sunday April 19 at 8.30pm.
