Tropfest, the world’s largest film festival has its annual free to air screening next month when Channel Nine shows the finalists in this year’s competition.
In February audiences of over 150,000 watched the 16 finalist films beamed live via satellite to venues in Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Perth, Hobart, Adelaide, Gold Coast and Brisbane. It also screened live on Movie Extra.
The winner was NSW’s Genevieve Clay with Be My Brother.
Channel Nine screens the two hour showcase at 9:30pm Saturday April 11th.

this is to Phill! Thought I had to comment after the stupid comment. Some people did not get the DVD. In fact in Melbourne the free DVD was not given away with the paper.
I could make the same comment why did they give free DVDs away? After all you could have gone to the free event or watched it on Movie Extra.
Any light bulbs go up over your head, Phill?
why bother???? all the films were released on a free DVD in the sun herald the week after tropfest. if u really wanted to watch them. u would’ve gone to the free event. or gotten the free dvd.
I will definitely be tuning in. I love Tropfest but didn’t have pay tv to watch it when it was on. Thanks Nine.
Finally some reasonable Saturday night viewing! I must admit, I did enjoy Channel 7’s “encore episodes” at the start of the season
Nine have screened Tropfest before, this isn’t a new thing they’re doing.
Correct, Nine is a sponsor. Last screened March 22 2008.
Good on Nine for screening something different [and half decent]… Since it’s a Saturday night, I’ll have my video set to record.
