CBeebies calls for Aussie kids’ format

BBC owned channel CBeebies announces a major opportunity for a new Australian kid's series to air around the world.

headerBBC Worldwide Channels Australasia is calling for Australian television producers to submit ideas for a 6-8hr children’s television series to screen on its CBeebies channel.

The successful pitch will air in Australia and on its international channels in the UK, India, Singapore, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Poland, Africa, Latin America and the U.S. Hispanic market.

“This initiative is an excellent opportunity for Australia’s incredible production talent to showcase their work locally and internationally,” said Brendan Dahill, BBC’s Director of Television.

“CBeebies is still in its infancy in Australia, having only recently launched in November 2008. Commissioning local content is a fundamental step to delivering unique, compelling and engaging television for our young Aussie viewers that reflects their world and supports the programming we have acquired from the BBC and other producers.”

The hunt is on for an upbeat, humorous series for four – six year olds, both boys and girls, which should feel physically rooted in the real world.

A shortlist of six will be drawn up and successful producers will be invited to a formal pitching session in Sydney. Tde deadline for submissions is Friday June 5, 2009.

  1. Yes – more Aussie kids shows needed. Alot of the CeeBeeBee’s shows are very very very bad in comparison to ours.

Always wondered why there isn’t a channel devoted to playing Aussie kids shows including alassics like Romper Room, Mr Squiggle, Old Humphry, Fat Cat, etc… I mean – its not like ABC’s and 123’s change over the years is it??
