giaanFremantleMedia and TEN always knew it would be impossible to keep the news under wraps, especially given the show recorded tonight’s episode on Friday.

But online forums are buzzing with word that 28yo Gianne Abbot from the Sunshine Coast returns to So You Think You Can Dance Australia to replace injured Penny Higgs.

Higgs was forced to exit the show after a rib injury. Abbot was the last female to leave the show, only last Monday.

“I hadn’t told anyone for a few days and on Monday night I did the group performance, and after the third time we did the routine I kind of felt something pop,” Penny said yesterday.

“It just felt a bit weird and scary. I wish I hadn’t said anything but I didn’t know what it was

“When I was called into the producers on Tuesday I just started crying because I knew that can’t be right, no one has meetings with the producers.

“Then they said we can’t allow you to dance and I just lost it.”

Channel TEN officials would yesterday not confirm Gianne would be back on the show tonight. But a spokesman said whoever had been chosen to replace Penny would not be allowed to speak to the media until after late tonight.

Abbot hails from Queensland’s Sunshine Coast but even The Sunshine Daily was unable to make contact with her on her mobile phone yesterday.

Higgs is expected to appear in the finale and recover in time to take part in the July national tour.

  1. I’m glad Gianne is back and I hope she stays for at least another week or two. She may not be the best female dancer, but I think she is better than Penny as a dancer. But this show is about Australia’s favourite dancer, not necessarily the best…..

  2. I loved Penny. She was my fav female. Her farewell vid was really sad 🙁 Loved the song used.

    But its nice having Gianne back. It’ll suck a lot if she leaves this week :p
