More movement from SBS programming with the announcement that Prototype This will be removed from schedule in April to make way for new Mythbusters.
The two San Franciscan boffins return to blow things up once more from April 11th.
Jamie and Adam are much more popular with SBS viewers, on one of the network’s most important nights. They generally attract around 400,000 viewers for new episodes while Prototype This hovers around 220,000.
At least when SBS (usually) removes shows from schedule they give us plenty of warning.

this sucks. i only just recently discovered the program. =( is there anyway i can get the episodes, say dvd or pay tv?
I like Mythbusters but Prototype this is soooooo much better. Why SBS?! why?!!!
I’m happy to just watch the last 15mins of “Prototype This”. It satisfies the curiosity and is much less painful than watching the personalities at work.
I am a bit disappointed that it’s going. I watched it tonight and quite enjoyed it, at least there is a few more weeks before it goes.
I figure it did not rate well enough and thats what matters to SBS now.
Thank goodness. I lasted through half the first episode of Prototype this and promptly removed it from my PVR recording schedule.
SBS is sitting on a lot of unaired Mythbusters episodes. They seem incapable of making it through a single season.
Interestingly, Discovery Science are showing them in the same order as SBS.
They have shown 3 eps (2-3-7) and have 4 more Saturdays before April 11 so will than only show 7 in total. This week is ep 9 “Wearable Airbag” I wonder if they will do a ch9-Flashpoint and not air the pilot LOL
7 of 11 episodes will have aired when Mythbusters returns.
Extra Time was removed a few weeks ago (I only reported it this week and I haven’t seen anybody else bother),
Worst week ever for SBS with 3rd axing (after Extra Time and Newstopia). Plus they’ve had the least amount of foreign content this week I can ever remember – only about 4 hours in primetime I can see. No Thu foreign drama at 8.30 and they usually play other languages after 10pm but Tue had 2 US docos, Thu football & Queer as Folk and Wed and Wed and Sat both movies in English. Strange way to go about getting more triennial funding – is that the kind of rubbish they want to spend it on?
Prototype This is probably being removed in April because SBS would’ve shown all 9 episodes that have been made so far.
Gotta agree with this move. Prototype this is…just OK. One thing I really hate about it though is the constant recaps and previews before and after every ad break. I’d say 10-20% of the show is recapping what’s happened or speculating on whether the invention will work. It’s as though they only expect people to watch for 10 minutes. It’s just something they often seem do on various US reality type shows that really annoys me.
While I’m please Mythbusters is coming back I’m a little surprised they don’t have room in their schedule for both shows. I was warming to the new show but why is it not been shown in order? so far it’s been 2-3-7.
