This Friday night Arena screens an episode of Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List in which Ms. Griffin visits the 2008 Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras. It screens the night before the 2009 parade.
In the home video-style show, Kathy talks up her screening on Arena. In fact in her own words she says, “It’s premiering on Arena, which is a big Australian network.”
But the real fun is when she meets local celebrities.
In LA she meets Kyle & Jackie O, hosting their radio show, dressed down in a hotel room.
“The Aussie press are fun,” says Griffin. “It’s like they’re kind of unshockable. It’s like they’re all gay.”
Later she tells the cameras, “I also hope I’m going to learn a lot of fun lingo. ‘Cos the Aussies pride themselves words that no-one else on the planet uses.”
Enter Merrick, Rosso & Kate via a phone interview before she leaves LA. They suggest she use phrases like ‘D**kbag.’
“Australians will insult each other as a greeting,” they insist.
Merrick and Rosso even teach her about ‘c**t features,’ which Kathy says she will try out on Olivia Newton John…
“Give it a go, Kathy, let us know how you go,” suggests Kate Ritchie.
The outrageous redhead also hosts a very misbehaved “pink flight” from LA to Sydney full of passengers for Mardi Gras.
On Mornings with Kerri-Anne (“a one-woman View”) Kathy says she is booking herself into rehab with a case of ‘Tall Poppy Syndrome.’
“Kerri-Anne was lovely,” she adds.
And when she tries to bone up on gay lingo for her live comedy show at the Enmore Theatre, she decides to speak to some local experts. Enter Tim Campbell and Anthony Callea. They spend most of their brief meeting laughing a lot.
“Those gays were a total waste of space,” decides Kathy.
Later she meets Olivia and Carson Kressley, heads to “Morongo Zoo” with Lance Bass, and goes shopping with Margaret Cho and Cyndi Lauper.
The episode airs 9:30pm Friday on Arena.

I can’t belive anyone would speak to Olivia like that. Everytime I see Kathy on an ad now, i feel disgusted on behalf of Olivia.
Learn some respect Kathy!!!!!!
I’ve seen this on youtube – Tim and Anthony were considered ‘a waste of space’ because they didn’t fit into the sterotypical Gay mold and were not ‘gay enough’ for her purposes….I’m sure they’ll be able to live with that!
Yes! she speaks the truth this woman, they are a waste of space!
Awesome to see how clued in she is!
How come she didn’t do celebrity singing bee – only a true D lister would do this.
i love kathy griffin, her show is awesome!
Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List is the must watch show of the week. She takes the piss out of everyone, including herself. One of the few hidden gems on cable tv…she almost makes it worthwhile paying my way overpriced monthly subscription to Foxtel.
I love love love Kathy and Life on the D List. Can’t wait for this one.
Now no one will need to watch this episode thanks to your detailed description of every detail.

I do enjoy the show, Comedy aired the first season (second too I think) a while back.
