Logie nominees due March 30th

The Logies will shift its nominee breakfast from Luna Park to Fox Studios, one week earlier than usual.

lnomineesThis year’s announcement of the Logie nominees will shift from a sit down breakfast at Luna Park to a theatre-style event at Fox Studios.

Media, sponsors, network executives, publicists and performers will instead enjoy a light stand-up breakfast on March 30th.

The change in timing will make life easier for network publicists, who will know the names of nominees ahead of sending through requests for tickets for the big night in May. With the invitee list slimming from 960 to 800 that will also help networks work out who to invite, given in previous years they had to request tickets prior to knowing the nominee list.

According to news.com.au, organisers say the change in the nominations announcement format is not a cost cutting measure despite the sit down breakfast costing around $40,000.

  1. I love Tv Week, have read it obsessively since i was a kid and use to even make scrap books of my favourite stars when i was a teenager. It is a bit of a trashy magazine like a previous post said but its light hearted escapism and its fun to learn about your favourite celebs from many great Australian television shows.
I always make sure i vote every year because as a reader of the magazine i think you have a part investment in the awards ( i mean we are nominating our favourite entertainers.) In my opinion i think the Logies are still important to the industry and the fans of the most popular shows nominated plus the peer voted awards because it gives them a chance to shine and be recognized. That said you could not vote for many of the actors from Out of the Blue because there were no codes on the voting website. I think the voting process is a little dubious as i could vote for a show to win an award but not nominate some of the cast in the show. Whats the point of that? Anyway i look forward to a great Logies this year especially if Gretel Killeen is hosting.

  2. Jack, the difference is that Home and Away isn’t Underbelly or Packed to the Rafters, as in, that’s not what the show is about. Sure, the story lines are crap, but the acting isn’t any higher in quality then any other Australian shows… bar maybe a few of the younger cast.

And it is the TV Week Logie Awards. So it is voted by the TV Week readers and the like. If we wanted the Oscars we can head to America, but for now our quality of acting isn’t high enough for us to host better awards. We have very limited good shows… and alas for some, Home and Away fits into the good shows.

Apart from that, we only really have Packeted to the Rafters, Underbelly, Spicks and Specks, Neighbours maybe, SYTYCD, not Thank God Your Here because I may not be 100% on this but has it been on since the last logies? (all new), or the few other remembered shows that haven’t been axed. Either way, I imagine Taken Out will win some time of Logie!

  3. To be honest so long as Home nd away don’t win much i’ll be happy.

Last years Logies was very frustrating, the amount of quality Aussie TV dramas on air and the worst of the lot, H&A has to go and take home all the main awards.

When are the veiwers going to realise what rubish that show is and that something like Packed to the Rafters or Underbelly is of a far higher standard and a lot more worth while watching!

  4. To be fair Tony, only the “popular” awards are voted by readers of TV Week.

The “outstanding” category awards are voted by industry juries, which puts them on par with the Oscars and Emmys in terms of judging criteria and credentials.

  5. Awards given by readers of Tv Week – ’nuff said. Ok 1950s, ’60s & ’70s. These days awards voted on by 16 year old skanks isn’t worth the tarnished copper it’s stamped upon. Award’s ceremony just an excuse for over-rated “stars’ (when’s the next pilot season in LA?) to get sloshed at TV Weeks’/(broadcasting network’s) expense.
    Cynical? Moi?

  6. I think its about time for a new TV awards. More serious and not voted for by people who read trashy magazines. An awards ceremony with satirical hosts and segments. Special awards at the end for finest program and personality. I sugest this because last year anyone with a brain knew Chris Lillee should have won the Gold Logie yet that woman from from Home and Away won. A just awards is needed with some thought about process and the event itself.

  7. wow is it that time again. giving out these ugly awards? does anyone think that maybe Graham Kennedy might have been taking the pee when he put forth the name of the logie? I know who it was named after but to me it seems something Grah Grah would do with a straight face only to laugh later. :))

  8. can we use this thread for gold logie nomination predictions. mine are (predictions, not who i would put in):

andrew denton rebecca gibney jodi gordon john howard lisa mccune guyton grantley michael caton kat stewart

yes, i’d say rove, natalie, and adam hills are out

others could be: a neighbor (i don’t watch it), jessica marais, hugh sheridan, shane bourne, aaron pederson, ian stenlake, eric thompson, paul o’brien or ada nicodemou.
