Very Young Lions

Heads up for a rerun of a 2002 crime series with Alex Dimitriades, Tom Long and Penny Cook.

young_lions_au-showJust a few years ago smooth suited Aussie detectives were all the rage on telly, but unlike City Homicide, they couldn’t seem to find an audience. Maybe we were all too distracted by reality TV at the time. Or possibly Marshall Law (kidding).

One such show, 2002’s The Young Lions, is about to get a rerun on 9HD.

The series based around the professional and private lives of four rookie detectives, starred Alex Dimitriades, Alexandra Davies, Tom Long, Anna Lise Phillips, Penny Cook as a Chief Inspector (years before Noni Hazlehurst met ‘Bernice Waverley’) and Katherine Slattery.

Set in South West 101, an inner city Sydney police station, it opens with the police station rocked by a convicted cop-killer enacting his own vengeance. The series hit the screens just before TENs now defunct White Collar Blue (2003) -in fact Peter O’Brien is apparently in ep 1. IMDb also lists Josh Quong Tart along with Terry Serio and Paul Pantano. 22 eps of the series were made.

Of course smooth suit cops go way back to Special Squad, Division Four and Homicide too… it’s just that they were all so brown.

It airs 10:30 Wednesday April 1st on 9HD.

  1. I quite liked this show when I worked out what timeslot nine bumped it to week after week. Nine should clear out some of it’s complete #### line up and give it a chance!

  2. David, Any idea when ABC will release thier schedule of upcoming shows. I am eagerly awaiting East of Everything and Bed of Roases, as well as Wild at Heart from the BBC?
    Cheers

  3. Great to see a re-run of this show, loved it the first time & was very disappointed when it was cancelled. Stupidly programmed up against White collar blue which my parents loved. When is Tom Long going to be back on TV?
