It sounds a little like a certain political career familiar to many of us in Australia, but Jane Horrocks’ BBC series The Amazing Mrs Pritchard charts another disillusioned woman who rose from a nowhere to become a political force.
The series revolves around supermarket manager Ros Pritchard, who, angry with the state of British politics, stands for election as an independent candidate in her home town in Yorkshire. She soon gains national attention and wins the general election, becoming Prime Minister.
Several politicians and journalists even made cameo appearances, including Tony Blair, Gavin Esler, Roy Hattersley and John Humphrys.
The 6 part series comes to air quite some time after its UK screening, in 2006.
It can be seen on Showcase at 8:30pm April 29th.
