At The Movies: April 15

This week a new film for French director Frances Verber plus a new movie for Vin Diesel and Paul Walker.

painThis week on At the Movies Margaret & David review a new film by French director Francis Veber (The Valet, The Closet, The Dinner Game).

And there is also a review of Vin Diesel and Paul Walker re-teaming for Fast and Furious. I seem to recall Margaret laughing with embarrasment over enjoying another sequel in the car franchise, Tokyo Drift.

No doubt David will disagree…

Here’s a rundown of the flicks airing at 10:05pm Wednesday on ABC1.

FAST AND FURIOUS – directed by Justin Lin. Vin Diesel and Paul Walker re-team for the ultimate chapter of the franchise built on speed. Heading back to the streets where it all began, they rejoin Michelle Rodriguez and Jordana Brewster to blast muscle, tuner and exotic cars across Los Angeles and floor through the Mexican desert in the new high-octane action-thriller. When a crime brings them back to L.A., fugitive ex-con Dom Toretto (Diesel) reignites his feud with agent Brian O’Conner (Walker). But as they are forced to confront a shared enemy, Dom and Brian must give in to an uncertain new trust if they hope to outmanoeuvre him. And from convoy heists to precision tunnel crawls across international lines, two men will find the best way to get revenge: push the limits of what’s possible behind the wheel.

RACE TO WITCH MOUNTAIN –directed by Andy Fickman. For years, stories have circulated about a secret place in the middle of the Nevada desert, known for unexplained phenomena and strange sightings. It is called Witch Mountain, and when a Las Vegas cab driver (Dwayne Johnson aka The Rock) finds two teens with supernatural powers in his cab, he suddenly finds himself in the middle of an adventure he can’t explain. When they discover that the only chance to save the world lies in unraveling the secrets of Witch Mountain, the race begins, as the government, mobsters and even extraterrestrials try to stop them.

A FILM WITH ME IN IT – directed byIan Fitzgibbon, starring Dylan Moran. Mark (Mark Doherty) is having a bad day. A struggling actor, he’s just been through the ordeal of yet another fruitless audition for a bit part in a movie. With his long-suffering girlfriend about to walk out and his landlord ready to evict him he’s only got his best mate Pierce (Dylan Moran) and their joint ambition of writing a career-breaking film to sustain him. Life’s not easy, but things are about to get worse…much worse. And then someone dies and things get really bad.

CAMINO – directed by Javier Fesser, Winner of 6 GOYA awards (Spanish Oscars), CAMINO is an adventure of the emotions inspired by a real-life story of a captivating eleven-year-old who is faced with two completely new situations in her life: falling in love, and dying.

A PAIN IN THE ASS – Directed by Francis Veber (The Valet, The Closet, The Dinner Game) Two adjoining rooms in a hotel. In one, a hit man, Ralph, in the other, a suicidal man, Francois Pignon. Pignon is unhappy in love, Ralph has a man to kill. Between the two rooms: a connecting door. And when it opens, Ralph, the perfect killing machine comes face to face with Francois Pignon, the perfect pest. Starring Richard Berry (Tais-toi!, The Valet); stand-up comedian Patrick Timsit; Michel Aumont (The Valet, The Closet) Virginie Ledoyen (8 Women, The Beach, Shall We Kiss) & Pascal Elbe.
