Desperate Catch Up for Seven

Here's Seven's pitch to plug leaks from Brothers & Sisters and Desperate Housewives plus Monday adjustments for an AFL match on May 11.

picketsSeven has moved on the under-performing figures for Desperate Housewives and Brothers and Sisters (both under 850,000 on Monday) with afternoon repeats beginning from next week.

Brothers and Sisters has a replay at 2pm next Monday afternoon May 4th, branded as an Encore.

A week later it’s an entire “Catch-Up Week” of Desperate Housewives with double eps from 12pm Monday 11th – Friday 15th instead of midday movies.

It’s the second time a marathon of the show has been trotted out this year.

Both US dramas were thumped by a fight between The Biggest Loser and Underbelly, which is a shame given Housewives is proving a fun season.

‘AFL-states’ will also get an evening football match from 8 – 11pm on Monday May 11 which also bumps out Boston Legal‘s series finale in those markets. Their new Scrubs episode “My Soul on Fire” part 2 moves to 11pm followed by a repeat.

30 Rock is out for the night in all cities. AFL plays at 11:30pm in Sydney / Brisbane.

  1. @Paul: In response to your response to Marg, the normal Biggest Loser timeslot was not on at the same time as DHW. It was just the finale that clashed, so many would have been torn.

  2. Unbelievable, as if there isn’t enough football on television!!! I really look forward to Monday’s because of DHW & B&S.. Last night I was all set, made sure the housework was done so I could relax with a cup of tea and my favourite shows… and then to my disgust and disappointment the football comes on!!! Not only is every other day or night riddled with football – before the game, after the game, footy classifieds, every news channel and of course Fri, Sat & Sun of football and shows about football!!! WTF… get your poop in a group channel 7, there are other people in the world that don’t actually follow the football. I’ll have to get tivo or be made redundant to enjoy my shows!! At least put DHW on another evening for the people who work!! Rubbish!!

  3. I can’t believe it! There is two nights a week I look forward to….Monday: DH and B&S and Thursday: GW, Grey’s and PP. We just had a break over Easter, why is Seven trying to take one of the few joys I have as a desperate housewife myself, and replace it with Football!!!! I’m a Saints supporter, but we chose to listen to it on the radio, Live…I don’t want to watch an old football match!!!

  4. Having just put the kids to bed in time (which is pretty amazing) for my weekly tv night I find bloody football!! Men do not need another night of football. Monday night men do the washing, dishes, kids and woman put their feet up. Not anymore. Sexist game, sexist channel 7!

  5. Dear Channel Seven,

30 Rock is one of thee few shows you can fit into a PG and air before 8:30pm. This isn’t The Sopranos or Curb Your Enthusiasm, there’s no need to wait until 11pm. Really. How about actually using your HD multichannel and air them there before the 11pm deathslot on the main channel. I suggest Thursdays against Ghost Whisperer.

Have you learnt nothing since Ten turned Futurama into a hit simply by putting it on at a reasonable time?

    Love,
    Evil

  6. @Marg: You could always tape one channel and watch the other live.
Also, event nights normally have that show on the same night and time regardless of it’s finale status, so someone who normally watches channel 7 on a night that ten screens biggest loser, are going to still watch channel nine on the biggest loser finale, there maybe a few switchovers, but not many.
I agree with bigger things, like the olympics, 2003 rugby world cup final and the state of origin, but appart from that, I don’t feel it’s that necessary, and as a viewer would be quite annoyed.

  7. I think on event nights like the Biggest Loser final and the like, the stations should be smart and put a repeat or replacment show on. It is a given that audiences are going to be divided.

  8. @Jerome: You’re right in that respect, they weren’t pulling in the figures needed to sustain a time slot such as that. However, it appears that Desperate housewives is not pulling in impressive figures either, under 850k isn’t good.

As for 24’s one-time shot at a 930pm slot, well as far as I remember, it barely got any advertising at all, plus there were no catch up marathons, or in-show pop up ads to help remind people that season 7 was premiering. I also think sunday isn’t a good day for 24.

If it had been a weekday@930pm, i reckon it would’ve pulled in at least as many numbers as Desperate housewives does.

  9. @paull, i was trying to figure out if ur comment was sarcastic or not.

24 was on at 9:30, with a standard promotion and only scored 600k up against flashpoint (600k) and life (700k). that is the reason it is on at 11:00. and lost wasn’t much better last time it was on in primetime.

wheras desperate Housewives can score 850k up against underbelly (1.7mil) and biggest loser (2.0mil). and was scoring over 1mil when underbelly was doing 2.4. that is the reason it is on at 8:30 and 7 is fighting for it.

  10. @Matt: Same should be said for lost, this season is the best yet. 24 also deserves something better than the 11pm sunday nighter.
I just find it odd that channel 7 would give a show such as DH, which is underperforming, a good time slot, and frequent marathons (well, this is the 2nd). They should just bite the bullet and treat it like they do with every other show. That is, move it to 11pm on monday night and give it absolutely no ads or promos during the week, except maybe throw in one during the show right before it.

  11. mac: the AFL match on May 11 was moved from Sunday (Mother’s Day) because in recent years, there were small crowds at AFL matches in Melbourne on Mother’s Day, as people prefer to spend the afternoon with their parents and grandparents.

  12. so after this will AFL states be behind 1 week to NRL states

Surely 7 could have seen this coming, they should have played an episode of DH, B&S, and Boston legal during easter and then it would all be ok instead of the movie.

hell, that might of even drawn some underbelly viewers back the following weeks.

  13. At least 7 make these changes in enough time for TV guide to reflect them. Its not a bad idea, but suggest they could more easily do this sort of thing if they had the 2nd channel up and running. At least 7 doesn’t knee jirk their shows off into different time slots or off air altogether unlike 9.

  14. Scrubs is moving back to 11pm?!?!?! God damn it. I remember last week in an interview with the guy who plays Turk, Kyle and Jackie O were praising Seven for its 8pm time slot for the show, that didn’t last very long did it.
