Dolly Parton, Ms. Show Biz

Good golly Miss Dolly Parton features in a story on 60 Minutes, now a show biz empire and a music survivor.

dollyTomorrow night 60 Minutes has a feature story on “the real Dolly Parton.”

As a buy-in story from the US this will look at her phenomenal success in show business, with particular emphasis on the ‘business’. She has risen from poor beginnings to running a musical empire, and is now about to take on Broadway at the age of 63, with a stage adaptation of Nine to Five.

And hands up who else can remember when she used to be on every Sunday night on Channel TEN with her own variety series -including doing an accoustic performance of “I Will Always Love You” years before Whitney Houston?

Also on 60 Minutes is a story on a a radical response to an increase in street crime and a report by Karl Stefanovic on older women and younger men.

iI airs 7:30pm Sunday on Nine.

  1. I very seldom watch 60 minutes, but made an exception for Dolly. For a woman who idolised the town tramp and dreamed of being trashy, she is pure class!

  2. My hand is up, David. I remember “Dolly” on TEN. Loved it. Every show ended with her singing that song. Whodathunk I’d grow to hate the song a few years later when Whitney released her version. I don’t suppose Dolly minds that Whit butchered a great country song… as the writer, she made millions.

  3. i watched 60mins a few years back and then just stopped and have started watching it again this year and some of the stories have been pretty bad, lacking in quality. ie. the charles wooley making a dick of himself in rio, growing a veggie patch, the fashion designers, that celeb breakup story. and this week doesn’t sound much better. but there have been a few gems like that pirate story.

it also seems that they barely do investigative journalism anymore. <that’s what used to make it good. and there is an imported story almost every week, but i can understand that is because of budget cuts.

  4. when are they going to do another investigation, we have only had one this year. IIRC SN has done one every week.

have they actually changed their premise away from investigations and toward reports? they used to do them all the time.
