Laura Leighton back to Melrose

'Sydney Andrews' is returning to Melrose, years after she was presumed dead from a car accident.

llMelrose Place now has its first confirmed cast member from the former series, in Laura Leighton.

Leighton played the scheming ‘Sydney Andrews’ in Melrose for four years. She returns as the same character to the reprised series, and expected to be the landlady in the CW pilot.

Other names have been mooted, including Heather Locklear (the original landlady), but until now none has been confirmed. Lisa Rinna has made no secret of the fact she would join in a heartbeat, including donning a sandwich board on an LA highway as part of a TV gag.

Returning ‘Sydney’ to the series will be quit a feat, given in the dramatic fifth-season finale in 1997 she was run over by a car on her wedding day in a near-fatal accident.

Looks like they’ve tapped right into the over-the-top tone of the show already.

Tuesday night’s a bitch.

  1. Word is Thomas Calabro who plays Michael Mancini has been signed to the new Melrose Place. I hope they’re bigger parts than what Jennie Garth and Shannon Doherty got on 90210. Otherwise why bother? I’m all for an all new cast if Michael and Sydney don’t have much prominence.

  2. @Steele – you are so right about Michael Mancini 🙂

As for Sydney’s ‘return’, no doubt she’s more scheming than ever… This is actually shaping up – sort of – to something I might watch.

  3. so the hollywood reporter is re-writting history? The “near fatal death” At the end of the season finale she was dead and the 1st ep of season 6 was set 1 day later in which she had died the day before.

  4. Andrew, Yes Sydney is dead but it wasnt her hand rising from the grave. Sydney was killed on her wedding day at the end of season 5. She married “creg” and got mowed down outside the church in her lovely white wedding dress in the season finale. At the end of season 4 Jane and Jo had shared a boyfriend called Richard who Sydney was jealous of so she spiked Janes drink causing her to have a stroke. Richard raped Jane and Jane blackmailed Sydney into helping her kill Richard and bury him alive. It was his hand that came out of the grave. He was later shot dead by police after stalking Jane and Sydney. Oh how we love Melrose. Such twists and turns in every single episode.

  5. Wait if I remember correctly was the last episode Sydney being buried and then her hand coming up from the grave or was there another season after that?

Why has their been no news on the male cast? Ashlee Simpsons name has already ruined it but I can just imagine they will get James Van Der Beek or some loser as part of the male cast.

  6. When we all needed a distraction from our lives we used to have Melrose Place. Hopefully, this new show will be worthy of a look. I will be looking forward to giving it a look

  7. I also heard that Thomas Calabro aka Michael Mancini will also be back. I wonder what they have install for him considering he married Sydney in the second series and divorcing her later on. I hope that they don’t stuff up the class of this tv show. I will certainly watch it when it comes on.

  8. Sydney was awesome, but the first thing I thought when I saw the headline elsewhere was “but she’s dead!”. I guess in the land of soap, rising from the dead is not to be unexpected.

I hope the remake pans out better than 90210 did. I think given the older demographic, and that the original Melrose was the more popular of the two, Ten might just take a chance on it. If not, it’ll fit in nicely on Fox8.
