Meet the MasterChef judges

Here are the three judges and host of TEN's new reality series. They really want you to watch.

masterchef-judges-host-3And here are the judges and host of MasterChef Australia -TEN’s new reality series launching Monday week.

They are from left to right, Matt Preston, Sarah Wilson, George Calombaris and Gary Mehigan.

Weekly challenges for the 20 contestants will include an off site challenge, mystery box, celebrity chef challenge and a masterclass.

There’s also a teaser clip at TEN’s site (and in fairness, after a Nine clip was derided for overdoing the cliches, the MasterChef one isn’t much more restrained in its adjectives).

So far it isn’t initially clear what the ultimate winner wins.

  1. All chefs are cooks u become a chef through experience 4 instance if u have the ingredients at hand how many of you so called chefs can make Bernaise sauce in one minute or less?? not many would be my guessd maybe u could have this as a challenge

  2. Your show is a farce, as a chef myself [30yrs plus] how much dandruff, hair and sweat, falls into the food especially the sweat, this also gives the impression that cooks and chefs out in the real world do not have to wear head gear. Also if the women or men have long hair like i used to have in my young days i had to wear a hair net and so should they on your show.

  3. Fancy throwing a dish to the floor. The respect given to the contestants has been a dividing factor with other shows and part of the Masterchefs sucess. No more, thats it,I wont watch anymore.

  4. Hello , I speak for a 55 adults extended family in Perth, re. Master Chef and many other T V programmes.

It’s a very interesting programme and we really enjoy it But:

After all the cost and effort to produce it , why employ a clown to sabotage our listening and enjoying the atmosphere by inserting loud, irritating , maniacal word drowning Noise ?

It’s become the vogue for this sort of action to ruin many T V programmes. Why do you want to prevent us from hearing and enjoying.
Please be the first to begin the pattern of killing this nuisance.
Who among your listeners will complain if you allow us to hear the results of your excellent efforts?

    Kind regards,

    John

  5. 27/4 we’re watching.
My partner & I are “foodies”, she is a “cordon bleu” qualified chef & we have taken a keen interest (from Sydney) in everything foodie worldwide for many years.
The concept is OK, but “who are your Judges?” No name food —nkers. Who are they? & What credibility have they to judge anything.
Quite frankly they are booring and deserately trying to make their mark.
Sorry but this pale intpo insignificance when compared with the UK version.
A very poor, but no doubt cheap effort by Channel 10 at “reality TV”

  6. Matt Preston writes great reviews in The Age epicure on Tuesdays. George Calombaris of course runs/owns The Press Club in Melbourne which is a fantastic restaurant; with his brand ever-expanding (The Hellenic Republic restaurant just recently opened). Should prove interesting with a couple of true (in every sense of the word) food professionals in there.

  7. From observing the commercials, I will watch this. It’s seems to have interesting characters, appears not-so-overly formulaic, and appears well lit & shot (good!). We’ll see. Hopefully—unlike the later Ramsey seasons—the focus remains on the food.

  8. If you could bet on weather a TV show is going to flop or succeed I would probably place a small bet of masterchef becoming masterflop because I am so sure it will as for how long it lasts I would say 2 weeks

  9. It’s soundng more like a copy of Top Chef, but with amatuers… the extended preview they showed the other night has it looking much more slick and well produced than the UK version.

I’ll be tuning in… only because H&A is trash and I refuse to watch 2.5 men fart jokes.

  10. Whatever reality show TEN have faith in has done them well in the past, particularly in the first years. I don’t think TEN are aiming for all BB viewers to watch this, they are targeting a new audience. I think its a good idea, fresh and new. Will give it a go!

  11. All the nay-sayers who are hoping the Australian version of MasterChef fails are just that: nay-sayers. Why can’t we for once support and celebrate a program made by Australians about Australians who are aspiring to something real. Like a job in the food industry. Unlike Big Brother which celebrated nothing more than fake boobs and fake aspirations. C’mon everyone. At least give the producers of this series the respect of having an opinion – good or bad – After something has actually been viewed.

  12. While I haven’t been following ratings for The Biggest Loser, I wonder if the whole “viewer fatigue” thing is hurting ratings? Do people still really want to watch a show every night for six nights a week?

Will MasterChef really be able to keep an audience engaged six nights a week?

I think Ten would be better off trimming these shows back and consider that sometimes, “less is more”.

  13. How long do we give it ? ……

I really dont understand Ch. 10 , for taking off , Big Brother, and replacing it , with something that isnt going to draw at least half the viewers of BB.

Channel 10, this surely must be the nails in your coffin .

    Big Brother 2010. on 10 !!
