Returning: The Zoo

One animal factual series will replace another on Seven next month.

zoomdSeven returns its animal factual series The Zoo next month.

It will replace RSPCA Animal Rescue at 7:30pm Tuesdays from May 5th.

Melissa Doyle returns to the hosting role.

It begins with the birth of two snow leopards, a 176 kilo silverback gorilla heading to the dentist, a lost baby wombat and a dangerous snake gets himself in big trouble.

Doyle was recently caught up in the escape of a 92kilo gorilla at Melbourne zoo while filming the series.

  1. Kev, Mel was at the Melbourne Zoo filming for this program when Yakini the gorilla climbed out of the enclosure and had a walk around (it was widely reported in the Melbourne media). She and other visitors were kept inside the souvenir shop while zookeepers lured the gorilla with food before tranquilizing her. There was a “re-enactment” on Sunrise on Good Friday with stars from Home and Away.

  2. “Doyle was recently caught up in the escape of a 92kilo gorilla” does that mean she was there while it happened. that’s gold.

i hope they put the escaping gorilla story as the first episode to give it a good start. That is quite topical.

These animal shows have been quite lucky with their topicalness, with the bushfires, the weribee starving horses scandal, the hippo birth, and now the gorilla escape.
