From today 9HD begins break-out programming in daytimes, with a mix of movies, sitcoms and repeat screenings of its network brands.
Beginning at 11am today Nine has Charlie’s Angels and Elvis movies and from Monday its Just Shoot Me, Seinfeld, a Brooke Shields movie, Domestic Blitz, Bewitched and I Dream of Jeannie ending at 4:30pm. Breakout programming resumes at 10:30pm.
The afternoon trend continues through to Friday adding repeats of RPA, What’s Good For You and Getaway.
Saturday will remain a simulcast.
Nine is expected to launch an entertainment brand on Channel 99 around October this year, tipped to be known as GO!

Still no announcement from 7 though. I thought Go 99 was coming in Aug. There’s a rumour of 7 in Oct – but that’s all – a rumour. Sadly though, daytime shows that are actually available in HD and promoted as such (like Ellen HD, ET HD, etc) won’t be in HD. Hopefully when Go starts, there will be no more HD break aways for the sake of it, and all shows made in HD will be shown in HD.
The B&W stuff on HD is as bad as ch7 ‘break away’ with old movies on the HD channel also in 4:3, seriously is this the best we can expect from freeview, 50 year of shows and movies? This is exactly what PayTV is for!
Just a note that the Bewitched & I Dream of Jeannie will be shown from tomorrow from the start as they were filmed in their early years – black & white.
This is different as when they started repeating them from the start last year, Nine showed them remastered in colour.
It was really great to see Charlie’s Angels & Magnum PI for my first time today. So it seems that the supposed start date for Channel 99 has been pushed back to October so that it is now in line with Seven.
nine had been showing ‘..jeannie’ and seinfeld on SD already.
so not all the programming is all that different.
…and i thought Seven had the monopoly on elvis films. there-you-go.
It’s clearly a test run for C99. I do hope once it’s up and running that 9HD starts to run more HD progams.
GO Nine HD!!!!! More viewer choice is definitely the way to GO. Movies and comedy series as an alternative to rugby league and AFL is a GOer with me. Watching Charlies Angels this morning was great….a blast from the past. Looking forward to tomorrows viewing as well. The expanded nine morning news is a welcome addition. Now Seven must meet the challenge in the HD world, the competition is about to start. And 7HD is frankly looking a non-event. GO Nine!!!!!
By the way Nine…consider broadcasting some old Australian drama – the Crawfords library would be a great place to start….
I’m also pleased to see more choice with some alternate programming on fta channels, but it would be good to see some HD content on the HD channel during these times.
7 still make me laugh though with their old, 4:3, b&w movies on their HD channel which flashes its nice HD logo/clip thingy.
Test run for 99?
Interesting choice of content considering it’s a HD channel. However, I’ll still be watching.
Woo hoo!! 50 year old sitcoms in HD!!!! About bloody time…
(seriously tho – good to see Seinfeld back on TV, same for JSM. What these alternate channels need to do is play the series’ in order, from the beginning, the same way Foxtel does [the same should go for the main channels]).
OMG at least show something made in the 21st century (excluding reality shows) please!
Fringe or any number of shows would be better, or even Survivor HD ?
yeah I saw Elvis movies on WIN HD today in Canberra — no EPG of course though!
Win also plastered their logo too. But atleast they ran it…
Only simulcast here in Adelaide. daaaam
Any chance 9HD could show Friday Night NRL Live into Melbourne. It’s simply not fair. People in PNG and NZ can see the Storm play on a Friday night, but we can’t. They apparently show the AFL Footy Show in Sydney on a Thursday night on 9HD, so how hard can it be to put NRL into Melbourne on 9HD.
I was waiting for this kind of thing to happen.
See with One’s introduction I thought Ten was going to phase out all it’s sport and they’d just show great old shows too but I guess not.
Excited about ‘Just Shoot Me’ and ‘I Dream of Jeannie’ – I’ve got my PVR all set up for those 🙂
I couldn’t believe it this morning when i saw Charlie’s Angels listed on 9HD,i assumed it was the movie but no the original series! Go 9!! Too bad i don’t have digital yet ..doh!
I think it’s great 9HD are showing classic shows – but why are they all American?
There are thousands of classic Australian shows in the vaults gathering dust begging to be shown again.
Matlock Police, Homicide, Division 4, countless soaps like The Box and even old games shows like Personality Squares.
I know some of them weren’t on Nine originally but surely at least some Aussie shows deserve another airing?,,,and I don’t want to hear an argument against old Black and White shows either – classic shows stand the test of time no matter what picture they were shot in.
And NBN, despite it’s new NBN-HD logo on Freeview’s website, still decides not to take it…. well done idiots.
Good on them, finally making use of their hd multi channel- shame most of the shows don’t interest me. Also, october is ages away, can’t believe it’s taken them this long. But they’re doing better than 7.
Well if 7 can pop out the first episode of Magnum PI today (Tom Selleck looked very buff in those days!), I guess 9 can bring out good old Jeannie and Samantha Stevens!
Well at least its something extra
I thought it was August startup…
The way this is going, this will give One a headstart…
9hd is still showing the same as the sd channel, even though on the epg it says a movie should be on
Here is what you can now expect on HD Channel on Ch9
-B*Witched & I dream of Jeanie
Get a grip CH9!
