Airdate: Bernadette Peters in Concert, 2009 Tony Awards

Broadway legend Bernadette Peters, who will appear at the Adelaide Cabaret Festival, will be featured in a concert special on the Biography Channel in June.

Foxtel will screen one of just two shows she will perform in early June.

Peters is a consummate performer of the music of Stephen Sondheim, having appeared in his musicals Sunday in the Park with George and Into the Woods.

Bernadette Peters in Concert: Live from the Adelaide Cabaret Festival will screen on Saturday, June 27 at 8.30pm.

And for fans of music theatre, it doesn’t end there.

The Bio. and Ovation channels are both embracing the cabaret theme for the month of June, bringing The 63rd Annual Tony Awards live at 10.00am AEST on Monday June 8th. An encore screens at 8.30pm that night.

Australia’s Geoffrey Rush is up for Best Actor for his performance in Exit The King.

The Special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre will be presented to composer and lyricist Jerry Herman (Hello Dolly, Mame, La Cage Aux Folles), prompting the Bio. channel to repeat A Conversation with Jerry Herman, in which Bill Collins interviews the composer on Saturday June 27 at 9.30. This will be followed at 10.00pm by Jerry Herman Broadway at the Bowl.

Caroline O’Connor introduces a series of Sunday night specialsfrom June 7 showcasing Liza Minnelli (June 7), Judy Garland (June 14), Hugh Jackman (June 21) and Bette Midler (June 28).

Finally the Australian television premieres of Barry Manilow Songs from the ‘70s (June 26, at 8.30pm) and Barry Manilow Live From Las Vegas (June 20, at 8.30pm).
