Director JJ Abrams is interviewed on At the Movies as Margaret and David review Star Trek.

jj-abramsSo what do Margaret and David think of the big screen version of Star Trek? We’ll find out tonight. They also interview JJ Abrams and Eric Bana (what no Zachary Quinto?). There are also new films for Philip Seymour Hoffman and Daniel Craig.

Next week it’s Ron Howard’s new flick, plus Ghosts of Girlfriends Past with Matthew McConaughey, Jennifer Garner, Michael Douglas and interviews with Matt Day and director Sarah Watt.

At The Movies airs 10pm tonight on ABC1.

Episode 13 – May 6:

STAR TREK – Interviews with director JJ Abrams and Eric Bana.

THE BAADER MEINHOFF COMPLEX – a film about Germany’s terrorist group, The Red Army Faction (RAF), which organized bombings, robberies, kidnappings and assassinations in the late 1960s and ’70s. Based on Stefan Aust’s best-selling nonfiction book.

DEFIANCE – Starring Daniel Craig, Liev Schreiber and Jamie Bell. Jewish brothers in Nazi-occupied Eastern Europe escape into the Belarussian forests, where they join Russian resistance fighters and endeavour to build a village in order to protect themselves and about 1,000 Jewish non-combatants.

SYNECDOCHE NEW YORK – written and directed by Charlie Kaufman. Interviews with stars Philip Seymour Hoffman, Tom Noonan and Samantha Morton and Catherine Keener- A theatre director struggles with his work, and the women in his life, as he attempts to create a life-size replica of New York inside a warehouse as part of his new play.

Ep 14: 13 May
ANGELS AND DEMONS – starring Tom Hanks and directed by Ron Howard. Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon works to solve a murder and prevent a terrorist act against the Vatican.

MY YEAR WITHOUT SEX – Australian film by director of Look Both Ways Sarah Watt. Margaret speaks to Watt and star Matt Day.

GOMMORAH – I/V with director Matteo Garrone. An inside look at Italy’s modern-day crime families.

GHOSTS OF GIRLFRIENDS PAST – starring Matthew McConaughey, Jennifer Garner, Michael Douglas. A bachelor is haunted by the ghosts of his past girlfriends at his younger brother’s wedding.

  1. yeah – Margaret will love star trek – or at least the movie, David will more than likely not be too into it.

    Anyone ever noticed that margaret looks like a Romulan?

  2. I recall them liking First Contact, which was the last Trek film they reviewed as the next two were in theatres while they were off the air.
