Chip off the old Block?

Jamie Durie might have been boots and all in The Block. David Heimann will be his polar opposite in homeMADE.

david_heimann2If you thought Jamie Durie got his hands dirty in The Block, wait til you see David Heimann in homeMADE -Nine’s new renovation series from the same producers Julian Cress and David Barbour. He is Durie’s polar opposite.

Heimann is an interior deign guru and dressed immaculately here. Speaking with loads of distinction from the safety of plush surroundings he commentates through the first episode from arms-length distance.

The show features a big cast of hot, mostly young, designers making over two adjacent homes.

Towards the end of the episode Heimann emerges from his penthouse-style surrounds to visit the renovations in a chauffer driven car.

It’s quite a shift from the boots and all approach to The Block.

The show has its Sydney launch today and premieres 6:30pm Sunday on Nine.

  1. Bring back the Block I say. This show is too much about testing designers emotions. Much prefer hard working home renovators showing off their talents than a bevy of young, gay, spray-tanned know it alls. The viewers won’t relate to these young upstarts and if I hear the words “on brief”, continuity and execution again I’m going to throw up!

  2. James, I believe people use television as both a means of seeking information and escaping reality, a point Nine is more than likely to be seeking with its “blue-sky” television concept at the moment.

  3. This show will probably rate well because they have chosen young hip designers with big egos – this will result in cat fights which will resonate well with viewers – but if we are serious about the economic climate and the effects the downturn is having on many families this show should really be condemned – hosts emerging from limousines is something most of us should just pewk at – there are people out there unemployed who would simply love a roof over the head, never mind a re-designed one – the timing is all wrong here – we just dont want to see too much self indulgence and I can just these squealing little self absorbed designers crying over which colour paint to use when there are people watching who have far more legitimat reasons to shed a tear.

Instead of self absorbing garbage like this, why not a show about how to get back into the workforce, how to beat the economic downturn and how to survive losing everything. At least a few of us might get something out of that!

  4. Seeing how well both of TEN’s new series have done in homeMADE’s new timeslots, the series is certainly goign to have high expectations to live up to.

  5. I actually quite like the look of this show. But I can’t see it doing too well. All these sneak peeks and endless promos, and there is still absolutely no buzz about the show.

  6. I am so excited about this show – I loved the Block, but wasn’t a fan of Chopping Block, so hopefully this will be fantastic.

They advertised for this show so many times during the Logies. Literally every ad break had an ad for this, Sea Patrol, or “So Much Entertainment on Nine.”

Either way, I am definitely going to be watching this. Smart choice of host as well – the young contestants will appear to the younger generation, while the more older host will appear to the older generation.

Hopefully this will save Channel Nine’s crashing Tuesdays. I personally wouldn’t have put it on Sunday as well. I would have kept it at just Tuesdays, or even Mondays and Tuesdays.

  7. this looks like a good, modern and more slick version of the block. will definetly give it a go. this heimann bloke looks kewl too. those glasses..wow..
