Gretel to talk shows with Nine?

Reports of a talk show and comedy series that Gretel wants to pitch to Nine.

gk11Gretel Killeen (who must be really grateful to Karl Stefanovic) had previously said the Logies was a guest appearanve and she wasn’t looking to return to television. This is despite her former Big Brother castmate Mike Goldman indicating, “It’s hard to imagine Gretel would be offered the Logies hosting gig if she didn’t have a TV show or something lined up.”

Today one report suggests she is to meet Nine executives next week to discuss a role at the network.

Nine said station bosses were sympathetic to Killeen, who they felt had become the target of a “gender agenda”.

“The industry has given her up and basically bashed her,” claims one unnamed quote.

“Television can be very tough on women. The Logies is a tough gig, but she did a good job in front of several hundred of the industry’s most cynical.”

Plenty of others this week disagreed, including those who say they are fans of her work.

The report suggests she has a talk show format and a comedy series to discuss with executives.

  1. I’ve always like Gretel. The Logies thing…meh, it’s a dud gig and really no matter what you do it’s always going to be pushing **** up a hill. She did it, she tried and when you’re speaking to boozed up, egos in a room, what else can you expect. What people fail to remember is, she has been a successful standup, comedian, writer for years, way before BB and way before The Logies. As a live tv personality, I’ve always said, no matter what the gig, she is a professional and can roll with the punces far better than anyone. Whilst I hated BB, I did see her on that stage, dealing with her ear and having to adlib, deal with wayward teens yet carry it off without a slur or stumble. Fair play to Ms Killeen.

  2. I like Gretel and she’s not “hopeless” as one commenter put it but her performance was not the best and the subsequent critcism was unfortunate. I think she’d be good on a talk show though. As long as the people she’s talking to are actually able to speak (I’m looking at you, teenage Home & Away guy!).

  3. Of course she is going to get a gig at Nine… after all if Leila McKinnon can have a show anyone can – oh wait, she’s married to the boss !!!

  4. i have never minded gretel before the logies, but i’m sorry it was a fly or die situation and she died. her television career is over, she is going to have to take some time off our screens and then slowly claw her way back up if she has any future at all.

any show that she does now will cause such a critic s***storm it is not worth it, it will be so much easier to just create another star from scratch that has no baggage.

coming from ch9 who are making no secret that they are the tack-cheap-bogan network. i have little trust that they will make a pleasant surpise that you can sometimes get from other networks.

  5. @ndro ‘The Logies bruhaha should be attributed to the woeful quality of writers (and maybe producers) they have for that event, but she did the best she could with that she’s given I think.’

When the credits were rolling at the end it showed that Gretel herself actually wrote her own material for the Logies. Having said that, I don’t mind Gretel, she just needs to find the right show to perform in.

  6. Of course she does. Nine have a habit of seeing gold, when the rest see a disaster. Nine are hopeless, Gretel is hopeless, they are perfect for each other.

  7. I like her. The Logies bruhaha should be attributed to the woeful quality of writers (and maybe producers) they have for that event, but she did the best she could with that she’s given I think.

(yes I am aware that she writes some of them but there’s got to be a team writing that)

  8. Comedy???? *spits coffee everywhere* Did they say “comedy”???? Talk show, fine. Comedy – no way. Don’t do it. Please. For the love of God.

  9. ahhh so the plot thickens. by the way, the negative comments for her logies appearance have got nothing to do with her being a woman, it was her ability or lack there of. why do people always go the ‘oh it’s because she’s a woman’ … urgh
