Law & Order in record-tying renewal
Law and Order is set to match Gunsmoke's 20 year record run for drama in US television.

Law & Order has been renewed by NBC for its 20th season which matches the 20 year run of Gunsmoke, according to the Hollywood Reporter. An official announcement is expected next week.
The order is believed to be for 16 episodes.
This is despite some slipping in the ratings in recent seasons
Creator Dick Wolf had been open about his desire to tie Gunsmoke for the longest-running drama series on US television.
Its current cast includes Jeremy Sisto, Anthony Anderson, Sam Waterston, S. Epatha Merkerson, Alana De La Garza and Linus Roache.
Still unclear is the fate of Law & Order: SVU stars Mariska Hargitay and Chris Meloni. But NBC has said that show will air regardless of whether they strike a new deal with the stars.

L&O:Trial By Jury should never have been canceled. It actually rated well given it’s time slot (on NBC), even beating Numb3rs by an average of 2 million. Apparently Dick Wolf and NBC weren’t on the best of terms back then, so were quick to pull the plug on the series citing poor ratings and Jerry Orbach’s death as reasons.
Of course, perhaps in the future, if ever the series gains momentum again there may be a revival (here’s hoping). Wolf hasn’t ruled out any new L&O series yet.
I so hope it makes it it to 21. I’ve always enjoyed it, but since Jack moved to the political position and Cutter came in, it’s soaring again. By far the best of the L&Os. (and after rewatching L&O: Trial By Jury recently, I still don’t understand why it was cancelled – it was better than either SVU or CI in the last season or so).
I’ve been tuning in to original L&O more than CI and SVU over the last year and i think it has been the most stable of the 3 series.
I hope the quality remains high enough, so that this time next year we’ll be reading about the show coming back for a record breaking 21st year.

I like SVU the best. I love the 2 actors on SVU, they are great! Hope they are still with the show!
Congratulations! The chemistry amongst the current cast and the script writing are some of the best we’ve seen in years. The original Law & Order and still the best!
