Sam Newman to be ‘tarred and feathered’

If you live in Adelaide and you've always had it in for Sam Newman, you may wanna get down to Rundle Mall on Wednesday.

samnewmanSam Newman is always, always, one for doing his bit for the network. He knows how to generate publicity. He knows how to sit back and cop the flak when it’s good for the show. And he does plenty behind the scenes for charity too. Last year at a network Christmas function he played Santa for hours on end smiling for photos while other celebs were off sipping the free spirits.

Tomorrow he’ll front up again for another stunt in Adelaide, this time as a result of his own supposedly foolish comment. Last week on The Footy Show he said he would be to be tarred and feathered before South Australians could get more than 40,000 to an AFL match. The Power and the Crows match got 41,000.

Tomorrow at 12:30pm in Rundle Mall under the Canopy in Rundle Mall (Gawler Place), Newman will be “tarred and feathered” (I’m guessing it ain’t real tar… that stuff stops your lungs from breathing).

In typical Newman style he says, “I don’t know what I am dreading more – being tarred and feathered, or actually going to Adelaide.

“No, I am not looking forward to it, but I am a man of my word, unlike those Adelaide people who call themselves football fans and never support their team. If by opening my mouth it meant a few got off their backsides, well, I am only here to make people happy.”

The stunt and dare is very “Lou Richards…’

  1. No Zambora, we don’t want our states IQ to be lowered. Sam made those comments to get people to the game, tickets were selling well before he made the comments anyway, but no doubt he’ll take credit. The Footy Show is crap these days, no footy and just a bunch of idiots liek Sam and Shane Crawford acting like tools.

  2. Sam Newman is the single best performer on Australian television. You can’t be a great comedic and not offend some people. If not, you end up with watered-down skim milk style comedians like Rove.

  3. sam is a clever guy, sure he says silly stuff and does some stupid things but he’s a really good bloke and does best what he is supposed to do, Get AFL in news. Good on him. At least he goes through with what he says he will.

Go Sam you are a champion and top Bloke with a heart of gold..

  4. Hopefully this gets shown on the Footy Show, and ends up being the clip that TV Week uses at next years Logies.

This year they used that clip of Sam Newman diving into a swimming pool…

  5. Not a big AFL follower, I hate the guy, but you gotta love his efforts.
You need to have “characters” like him around, he’s helped to 1) get extra bums on seats 2) generate publicity for AFL.

    Wins all around.

  6. While i was happy we got 41,000 to our home Showdown i was actually hoping we didn’t get 40,000 just so Sam didn’t come to our state. Just go away Sam.
