Seinfeld's catchphrase tops The Simpsons, Friends and Happy Days according to a US list of comedy TV.

seinfeldIt sounds like their very own 20 to 1, but NBC and media museum The Paley Center recently nominated America’s Top 50 comedy catchphrases, hosted by Jane Krakowski.

  1. Dreadful list. As others have mentioned, some of these so-called catchphrases have only been used sparringly throughout their respective series. Plus, since when was The Simpsons ever known for “eat my shorts?” Surely “Ha, ha”, “Excellent”, “think of the children” and countless other catchphrases they’ve spawned over the years are far more well known (and used).

  2. Wow Perfect Strangers haven’t seen that in years! Might see if it’s available on DVD. I was a little bit dissapointed when I started going into the 20’s and didn’t see “that’s what she said” number 12 happy with that 🙂

  3. oh and as for the ‘yada yada yada’ thing it must be the cable networks and the DVD’s that influenced that cuz they promote the hell out of that phrase whenever it comes to Seinfeld.

  4. what about ‘what the deuce’ or ‘don’t have a cow’

well I guess their older catchphrases that haven’t been used lately in either series.

But seriously how on earth could they miss ‘what u talkin bout’….that is incredibly ludicrous

  5. Yeah that lists crap.

love sienfled but “Yada, yada, yada” is from one episode. Hello Newman is more a catchphrase. like the soup one. A more lasting one episode catchphrase type line is something like “I was in the pool”

Doesn’t a catch phrase have to be a long running repeated thing?

Eat My shorts, even the simpsons made a joke about 10 years ago that bart hadnt said it in years.

Also some of that stuff, were they even catch phrases created on those shows. Like “how you doin’?”

So yeah lame list, and missing obvious ones like

    “what you talkin’ ’bout willis”

Also the enoutage one is wrong. it’s not “Do you wanna hug it out” it’s
“Lets hug it out” or “lets hug it out bitch”

I could go on but yeah not a very good list.

  6. Wow SNL had a few in there.

And I love Seinfeld but wouldn’t put Yada Yada at #1..Hello Newman should have been higher.

    What about “Norm” from Cheers?
