hydeTonight’s episode of Australian Story looks at the 2006 murder of a local identity, Doris Owens, in the NSW coastal village of Swanhaven. She was brutally stabbed to death in her holiday home.

Nature lover Owens was a thorn in the side of local developers.

Owens’ eldest son, Adam Owens, blamed a local politician but her younger son Caleb, a psychologist, suspected otherwise. Within weeks police identified their prime suspect but months of investigations turned up very little conclusive evidence.

During nine meetings held ringside at the giant chess board in Hyde Park, Caleb Owens extracted a confession from the man he long suspected was responsible – his brother, Adam Owens.

It airs 8pm Monday on ABC1.
