africanqueenAfter finishing its Cary Grant season, ABC2 will soon feature a number of Katharine Hepburn films on Saturday evenings.

It begins 8:30pm on Saturday July 4th, and kicks off with The African Queen directed by John Huston.

The 1951 classic co-stars the equally legendary Humphrey Bogart.

It is followed a week later by The Little Minister, made in 1934, a drama about a Scottish noblewoman who masquerades as a gypsy, and steals the heart of the new minister in the village.

This isn’t one of Katharine Hepburn’s best-known films, and was not very successful at the time, but it did help add to her image as a rebellious and independent woman.

It is based on the novel by Peter Pan author, J. M. Barrie.

  1. By the way, does anyone know where I could find a list of the films they will be screening. I checked the ABC2 guide on line but it only goes up to the first week of June. Or if you know any of the films that will be shown, could you post them here? Thanks a bunch! 🙂

  2. For the record: The African Queen was never in black and white. It was originally filmed in technicolour which is an entirely different thing to being colourised. Just thought you should know. If they are showing The Iron Petticoat, that film was filmed in black and white so if it’s colourised…… yugh! It’s not a great film anyway but if you’re a great fan of Kate, like me, you’ll wanna see all her work and any chance to see a rare film of hers is great! 🙂

  3. the film ,The African Queen is in colour, what I saw of the ad all the films that should be in b/w are in b/w and the films in colour which are two, The African Queen & Iron Petticoat, which also stars Bob Hope made in UK. Its very funny.
