Showtime has just greenlit a third season of Tracey Ullman’s State of the Union.
The comedy began its Australian run on the ABC last week, in place of The Chaser’s War on Everything.
In the half-hour comedy, Ullman portrays a variety of real-life and fictional characters, doing impersonations of celebrities such as Celine Dion, Jodie Foster and J.K. Rowling.
Showtime ordered seven episodes for the new season, to air in the US in 2010.
From next week ABC moves the show to 9:30pm Tuesdays.

While I think Ullman is a brilliant performer, this show is tremendously flat. Her impressions of famous people are either too close to the real thing to say anything satirical (like the David Beckham sketch in the first episode), or just ramble on and on without any payoff. Then again, my response to this show was coloured by the ABC’s spineless pulling of the Chaser, so maybe I should give this another chance…
Boring!
Oh god please make the pain stop.
Pity it couldn’t replace that Chaser rubbish every week!
I find the show mildly amusing, but it’s not something I’d go out of my way to watch again (if it returns after Chaser). The impressions of Beckham and Zelwegger are good, but the rest is a bit….blah….
I like it when she does Renee Zelwegger doing JK Rowlling. Worth watching and it takes the place of Mumbai Calling next week. I am intrigued by this woman…
I love the pharmacy/Bollywood sketch. Very funny
